Powers/Abilities: In life, Peter Marmon was part of a highly-skilled military unit, presumably highly trained in armed and unarmed combat, at least. As a Destroyer, he was a soulless, deadly, highly-skilled warrior, fueled by hellfire and possessing a technology and magic-enhanced body. He could rapidly extend the pointed projections on his chest into numerous spikes able to perforate flesh (and presumably most materials) within range. He could fly at great, although unidentified speeds. His chest contained a power
cell fueled by
Hellfire, and destruction of that could terminate his existence,
although intense flames released in the process could also kill
most
beings within range. The hellfire infusion altered their biology significantly, such that their blood had more in common with jet fuel than plasma, their skin grew leathery and their organs blackened. He was highly-resistant to
conventional attacks such as gunfire, although he could be
injured by
Wolverine's claws. Even decapitated, his body could still function and follow his will. He only had vague memories of his human existence, but he could sense that he valued his family and wanted them back, although he could not appreciate that he was terrifying to and might harm them by trying to reclaim them. (Hellverine I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Peter Marmon was part of an elite U.S. Army fireteam led by Lt. Col. Leon Townsend, extensively trained and highly decorated, and there was no unit more dangerous or effective in the Army. (Hellverine I#2 (fb)) - Peter and his team trained on obstacles. (Hellverine I#2 (fb)) - Peter and his team played cards and drank
beer. (Hellverine I#1 (fb) - BTS) - The demon
Bagra-Ghul, who had previously possessed Wolverine to become the
Hellverine, possessed the corpse of Wolverine's son Daken, who
became
the new Hellverine and began brutally murdering people engaging in

I#2 (fb)) - Eventually an ambush slew the elite fireteam, with
only

After everyone else had departed from the cemetery, General Harms
ordered his troops to dig up Marmon and his associates.(Hellverine I#1 (fb)) <One day before the main story> - General Harms and his troops delivered the corpses to Dr. Spivey in the Pentangle, the home of Project Hellfire, deep below the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. While Dr. Spivey announced that she was not ready and still running diagnostics, General Harms advised her that each of these soldier had cost the country about $60 million, about as much as a jet, and that they were not going to write off that kind of loss and move on. He continued that their bodies were trained weapons that were on their way to rotting, but that he had kept them clean of formaldehyde so she could do her good work and that their muscle memory should be intact. He then ordered that their bodies be prepped as quickly as possible.  The bodies were rebuilt with iron forged from the blood of sinners, weapons charged with the screams of the damned and sulfurous bombs, as well as burning chains and poisoned hooks that caused torturous pain down to the marrow of one's soul. Hellfire was used both as a weapon and as the source of energy. (Hellverine I#2 (fb) - BTS) <One day before the main story> - These beings were dubbed Destroyers. (Hellverine I#1 (fb)) Under Harm's direction, the soldiers were charged with hellfire. Although they briefly remained inert, they suddenly revived. Disregarding Harm's orders, one of the male Destroyers slew one of the involved scientists and then killed itself. The other four (including Peter and Jamie Doeden) departed, laying down a webbing of hellfire to prevent Harm and his people from following them. The four Destroyers broke into the Pentagon, killing 50 people in the process, until Hellverine arrived and tore one of the female Destroyers in half, after which another of the Destroyers pulled a helicopter down on to of Hellverine. The Destroyers apparently departed before the smoke cleared. (Hellverine I#1 - BTS) - Assuming Wolverine to be the new Hellverine, agents of Project Hellfire captured him. Observing footage of the battle between Hellverine and the Destroyers. (Hellverine I#2 - BTS) - Wolverine resolved to use the Destroyers as bait to lure in Hellverine, while General Harms sent a Hellhound to track Wolverine. (Hellverine I#2 - BTS) - Seeing footage of the Destroyers, Townsend recognized them as his former troop. (Hellverine I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Retaining some memory of past existence and desiring to reclaim his family, the Peter Marmon destroyer entered his home and took Keeley's arm, scaring her. Meanwhile, his widow looked at his picture and lamented his loss. (Hellverine I#2) - Keeley's cries of protest drew her mother, who was shocked to recognize the monstrous creature as Peter. At his widow's request, Peter let go of Keeley, who ran to her mother. She told Peter that he needed to leave, but he shouted "mine!" and charged at them, at which point Wolverine, who had apparently staked out the place, leapt forward and decapitated Peter. As his still conscious head continued to repeat, "Mine!" his headless body pursued his widow and Keeley, who screamed as they ran from him. |
 Wolverine tackled Peter's body and told his family to get out of there, after which he fruitlessly asked Peter where were the other two soldiers. When Wolverine was distracted by screams from outside (when Keeley and her mother saw the Hellhound on the streets), Peter's body extended a number of spikes that impaled Wolverine.  In turn, Wolverine stabbed his claws deep into Peter's chest, and sparks ignited his fuel-like blood, and the flames burned Wolverine to the bone, while finally terminating Peter's existence. (Hellverine I#2 - BTS) - Meanwhile, Project Hellfire agents holding the Hellhound on the streets lost control of it when it charged Keeley and her mother, but the other two Destroyers arrived in time to slay the Hellhound and then the Project Hellfire agents. They departed as the healed Wolverine exited the house. Having appreciated who was to blame for their current existence, the two Destroyers then headed back to Washington, DC. |
 (Hellverine I#3) - As their house
burned
down, with Peter's remains inside, Wolverine and his widow
considered
that it was better if it all burned. At her query, he confirmed
that
was going after the other soldiers, and she gave him the
motorcycle in
their as yet unburnt garage. (Hellverine I#3 - BTS) - Townsend convinced General Harms and Dr. Spivey to transform him into a Destroyer to bring the others under control. Hellverine slew the other female Destroyer. (Hellverine I#4 - BTS) - Townsend joined up with Doeden, and they allied with Hellverine and Wolverine in slaying General Harms. Hellverine left Townsend, Doeden and Dr. Spivey in charge of the Pentangle and Project Hellfire. |

I#2 (fb) - BTS) - She was married to Peter Marmon,
and they had a young daughter named Keeley.(Hellverine I#2) - After Peter was killed in action, she grieved his loss and was not sure how to move on. was horrified when he appeared in the monstrous form of one of the Destroyers. Her appearance calmed or distracted Peter enough so that he let go of Keeley, but when she told him that he needed to go away, he seemed to dive at her as if to reclaim her. After Wolverine decapitated Peter, she fled outside with Keeley only to encounter the equally monstrous Hellhound. It leapt at her, but the two remaining Destroyers tore it to pieces. (Hellverine I#3) - Watching her house burn down with Peter's corpse in it, she considered that perhaps it was best if it all burned down and she and Keeley could move on. After Wolverine confirmed that he was going after the rest of the Destroyers, she gave him the motorcycle from the garage before the fires reached it. Hopefully she got her car out, too... --Hellverine I#2 Note: Unfortunately, neither her first nor last name were revealed in the story. It is likely that she was Mrs. Marmon, but that's not confirmed. She could be a candidate for the Legion of Night if anyone ever remembers and uses them again. |

- The young daughter of Peter Marmon and his wife, she was
distressed when her father -- who had recently died in action --
showed
up as one of the monstrous Destroyers. Despite Keeley's fear and
screams, Peter kept holding onto her arm until her mother arrived,
and
her presence convinced or surprised Peter into letting her go. She ran to her mother, and when the Destroyer -- who could only remember his desire to be with his family -- tried to reclaim them, Wolverine decapitated him. As the Destroyer's body continued to pursue Keeley and her mom, Wolverine tackled it and told them to get out of there. Outside their house, they were confronted by the monstrous Hellhound who broke free from its restrainers and leapt at them, but the other Destroyers tore it -- and its handlers -- apart before fleeing. Having witnessed this, Keeley stayed outside, clutched in her mother's arms as Wolverine exited their now-burning house, having terminated her father's reanimated form. (Hellverine I#3) - Keeley was held in her mother's arm as their house burned down and her mom gave Wolverine their motorcycle to pursue the other Destroyers. --Hellverine I#1 |
