Real Name: G'aspx

Identity/Class: Alternate Reality (Reality-9411) extraterrestrial (D'bari) advanced technology-user

Occupation: At least formerly the commanding officer aboard a D'bari ship

Group Membership: The crew of the ship of the "rogue faction" of D'bari

Affiliations: Admiral J'anak;
    formerly/reluctantly forced to utilize Death's Head (Freelance Peacekeeping Agent)

Enemies: Death's Head (Freelance Peacekeeping Agent), Hulk (Bruce Banner), humanity, Tyrus Krill (possibly an alternate reality counterpart; see comments);
    indirectly S.H.I.E.L.D. (including Maria Hill and agent Yoth), General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross;
    possibly the Phoenix Force (see comments);
    he was upset with
J'anak and his allies for hiring Death's Head

Known Relatives: K'hari (life mate, deceased)

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
    at least formerly a D'bari ship, last seen in low orbit over Earth-9411's moon

First Appearance:  Marvel Heroes#33 (Marvel UK; March, 2011)gaspx-dbari-9411-teleport-weapon

Powers/Abilities: G'aspx was apparently a baseline D'bari and apparently would have a lifespan measuring centuries rather than years. He may or may not have had gills and been amphibious.

    G'aspx did not demonstrate any superhuman abilities, although he did have access to a ship able to travel trans-galactic distances, presumably utilizing some sort of warp-drive and/or stargates. He also had access to the ship's technology, including teleporters (able to cover orbital distances, at least), protective shields, and an anti-matter cannon able to leave a mark on the moon visible from Earth. However, the anti-matter cannon utilized so much energy that it left the ship (at least when their resources were strained) without sufficient energy to fully power their shields.

    He presumably has some degree of combat training, and he can swiftly analyze and determine how to utilize alien weaponry (or, at least, Kree weaponry).gaspx-dbari-9411-face-prof

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 5'5")
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 135 lbs.)
Eyes: Apparently dark (while solid white is typical for D'bari; G'aspx, J'anak and at least two others in their crew had visible pupils and/or a small, dark irises; G'aspx actually only had a couple images showing his eyes clearly: one showed them as solid white, and one with dark pupils and/or irises)
Hair: Gray (cut shorter, rather than the typical bushy hair of D'bari)

History:

(Marvel Heroes#33 (fb) - BTS) <Several years before the main story> - The D'bari were wiped out in a catastrophe (see comments).

    A rogue faction of D'bari survived in a city-sized space craft.

(Marvel Heroes#33 (fb) - BTS / Wolverine Annual 2000 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, the bounty hunter Tyrus Krill slew K'hari and placed her head on his wall. As a result, G'aspx developed an intense hatred for bounty hunters.

(Marvel Heroes#33 (fb) - BTS) - Those aboard the D'bari craft sought to colonize Earth. Wishing to keep Earth's global structure intact and avoid collateral damage, they resolved to arrange a contest of champions.

    As they planned for this, Admiral Janak and others arranged to hire Death's Head despite knowing of G'aspx's disdain for bounty hunters (and despite Death's Head eschewing the term in favor of "freelance peacekeeping agent").

    G'aspx apparently vetoed the idea, but Janak and others reached a consensus; as their own resources were acutely limited, they felt they had to use an external agent. Janak and the others went ahead with the plan, hiring Death's Head.

    Janak and others also felt that they had to bluff humanity into believing the threat of their ship's power, using an anti-matter to demonstrate its destructive power but realizing that doing so would leave them with too little energy to fully power their shields. gaspx-dbari-9411-weapon

(Marvel Heroes#33 (fb) - BTS) <Forty-eight hours before the main story> - The D'bari city-craft appeared in near-Earth orbit, and their commander made a broadcast, stating that his forces were poised for attack, with a view to colonizing Earth. He issued a challenge: Earth's mightiest human champion to fight their champion in mortal combat.

    After the D'bari ship demonstrated their anti-matter cannon, which created a scar on Earth's moon that was visible from Earth, S.H.I.E.L.D. concluded that Earth's forces could not oppose that sort of firepower. They agree to the contest of champions, and they used a device that temporarily put Bruce Banner's mind in control of the Hulk's body, after which they convinced the Hulk to serve as Earth's champion.gaspx-dbari-9411-eyes

(Marvel Heroes#33) - The battle took place in the Blue Area of the Moon, during which G'aspx reiterated his disapproval of having hired a bounty hunter. Janak told him that the matter was closed, as they were committed.

    G'aspx reluctantly accepted this, but as he teleported away, he swore in K'hari's name that Death's Head would not live to spend his blood money. His scans had showed that the Blue Area of the Moon was scattered with ancient Kree weaponry.

(Marvel Heroes#33 (fb) - BTS) - G'aspx arrived in the Blue Area of the Moon, where he confirmed his scans and located a large weapon, with which he targeted Death's Head, preparing to assassinate him as soon as he finished off the Hulk.

    At the same time, S.H.I.E.L.D. armorer Agent Yoth plotted with General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, taking a Hulk-Buster suit from the armory and planning to capture or slay the Hulk if he defeated Death's Head.

(Marvel Heroes#33) - G'aspx locked his weapon on Death's Head, the mechanoid's sensor array detected the weapons-lock and D'bari life signs, and he realized that he was being double-crossed.

    Sharing the situation with the Hulk, Death's Head feigned defeat, while the Hulk leapt up to G'aspx, grabbed his weapon and fired it instead at the D'bari ship, heavily damaging it. As the Hulk grabbed G'aspx, Yoth prepared to shoot the Hulk in the back, but Death's Head instead incapacitated the Hulk-Buster armor. After Yoth blamed Ross for having masterminded this betrayal, the Hulk was teleported to confront Ross (presumably by Death's Head's technology).

Comments: Created by Simon Furman and Simon Williams under the Marvel UK imprint.

    I think G'aspx was in charge, but Janak and the others went behind his back and arranged the hiring of Death's Head to serve as their champion. Otherwise, why would he be able to veto the idea?

    This was a somewhat simplistic story, as a small D'bari ship would not be a threat to conquer the entire Earth, but it was fun anyway.
    The D'bari could have just asked for sanctuary on Earth. After their ship was damaged, they may have been forced to do so...

    In Reality-616, it was Dark Phoenix who wiped out the D'bari by consuming their sun. I don't know that it is confirmed who wiped out the D'bari in Reality-616.

    Similarly, while we don't know for sure that a rogue faction of D'bari survived in Reality-616, we do know that the Reality-616 bounty hunter Tyrus Krill had K'hari's head on his wall on his wall. This story has G'aspx noting that a bounty hunter had slain his mate, K'hari, and a footnote confirmed that that bounty hunter had been Tyrus Krill. That would seem to hint that something similar occurred in Reality-616, although the details are unconfirmed...or perhaps that Tyrus Krill-616 traveled to Reality-9411...or the D'bari-9411 traveled to Reality-616...or something...

    In terms of the comments regarding whether or not the 9411 D'bari homeworld was wiped out by Phoenix or something else, and the whole bit about Tyrus Krill - the stories in Marvel Heroes and other Panini/Marvel UK titles around this time weren't considered by the writers to be alternate reality - per a discussion I had with one of the writers at a UK comic con, they were writing stories using US continuity, but simultaneously didn't need to make any real attempt to match to current events. So they weren't setting out to change any history, but they'd frequently use a "classic" version of a character (such as Captain America) when the US version now had a new status quo and stuff like that, enough to make things irreconcilable with 616 - their stories were "continuity lite." So all the discrepancies or differences from 616 weren't intended, and it's fairly safe to assume that anything not explicitly different from 616 was the same.
