Base of Operations: Greenwich Village, Manhattan,

First
Appearance: Spitfire#1 (October 2010)
Powers/Abilities: Amelia had most of the standard
powers and weaknesses of a vampire. She was far stronger and faster than
a normal human, could rapidly heal from injuries, and didn't age. She
also possessed sharp fangs and claws when she wanted to. She was
vulnerable to sunlight, as well as presumably to Holy objects backed by
faith, and she needed to drink blood to survive. She didn't demonstrate
any shapeshifting abilities, but whether that was because she couldn't
or because she felt turning into an animal was too gauche for someone of
her class remains unrevealed.
Amelia wielded a "Spellcaster" cross that did not burn her, but instead allowed her to project binding bands of energy, a magical artifact given to her by Mys-Tech. The cross glowed a light purple when in use, but looked like a regular wooden crucifix when out of Amelia's hands.
Height: 5'6" (by estimation)
Weight: 120 lbs. (by estimation)
Eyes: Lavender; pupils slitted like a cat's
Hair: Black
History:
(Spitfire#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Amelia Bertram-Hayes was a member of the English aristocracy and a
vampire. Exactly how long she'd been undead was unrevealed, but she was
already old enough by the time of World War II to be overcome with
ennui. She'd long since lost her entire family, and felt the weight of
meaningless history. Human conflicts would pass, and she believed there
was no cause in the world worth belonging to, so she was willing to work
for any side, not for the money, but to keep herself entertained,
desperate to find excitement to make her endless life worth living. Thus
she spied for Hitler and the Nazis and felt no regret doing so. In much
more recent times she sided with Dracula when he sought to conquer
Britain, but changed sides once the vampire lord's mental sway over his
followers was broken; whether this was because she had never wanted to
work for him, or simply realized he was about to be the losing side,
remains unrevealed. Subsequent to that Amelia was hired by Mys-Tech's
Ormond Wychwood to steal plans for the new Iron Lion armor, paid for in
blood and with a Spellcaster device, but the theft was noticed and
Amelia became a prime candidate on MI-13's list of suspects.
(Spitfire#1
(fb)) - MI-13 head Pete Wisdom planted several of his
operatives at a party in Kent (presumably because they'd learned that
was the intended site of the handover of the stolen plans). During the
party Wisdom and his vampire agent Jacqueline, Lady Falsworth, a.k.a.
Spitfire, approached Amelia, ostensibly just to make conversation, but
Amelia brushed off their attempts to chat as boring, calling the
recently undead Spitfire a "novice vampire."
(Spitfire#1
(fb) - BTS) - At some point after this MI-13 confirmed Amelia to be
the thief, but she fled to New York, where she began to frequent a
vampire bar somewhere in Greenwich Village. However she fully
expected someone from MI-13 to eventually come for her, most
probably the vampire slayer Blade.
(Spitfire#1 (fb))
- Hanging out with some younger vampires, Amelia willingly discussed
her past spying activities, openly telling them about working for
the Nazis. Though the other vampires thought that was somewhat
racist, they made excuses in their own minds that it had happened
long ago, and enjoyed her company because she was "sheer camp" and
thus cool. Unknown to Amelia, out of curiosity they also followed
her home to the abandoned apartment building she was living in.
(Spitfire#1) -
Six weeks after the Kent party Spitfire and Blade tracked Amelia to
Manhattan, then by scent to the Greenwich Village vampire bar, and then
finally her apartment building after the bar's other regulars
volunteered the location. The heroes snuck in, but Amelia was ready for
them, and trapped Blade in energy bands projected from her cross. She
held Spitfire off with the cross for a few moments while she admitted to
stealing the plans and told Spitfire who had hired her in the hope that
might be enough to get the heroes without arresting her. However
Spitfire made it clear they were not there to arrest her. Shocked at
this, Amelia began to rant against the unfairness of being sentenced to
death for choosing the wrong side, insisting that if MI-13 had only
trusted her she could have worked for them. Spitfire interrupted, asking
Amelia if she really wanted her last words to be an incoherent rant,
adding that she was in danger of becoming tiresome. Possessing the
English aristocracy's sense of decorum, Amelia paused as the words hit
home, then admitted Spitfire was right and thanked her. Then they began
to fight.
With her superhuman speed greater even than most vampires, Spitfire dodged Amelia's attempt to bind her using the Spellcaster, and kicked the cross out of Amelia's hands. The pair then grappled hand-to-hand, crashing outside onto the scaffolding platform built around the building. As it quickly became obvious that Spitfire was the far better fighter, Amelia realized her end was coming, and so told Spitfire that whatever she had done, she had always loved her coun... She never finished the sentence, because Spitfire decapitated her, sending her head dropping to the street below. Glancing at Amelia's headless corpse, Spitfire promised to tell everyone that Amelia's last words were something witty.
