ALPHA MALES
Membership: Six unidentified clones of Alpha
(Andrew Maguire)
Purpose: They were intended to pair with the
Spiderzons (genetically-enhanced clones of the
Jackal's late ally, Ana Soria) as an unstoppable
army
Aliases: None
Affiliations: Jackal
(Miles Warren), Spiderzons
Enemies: Alpha,
Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
formerly the Jackal's base within an abandoned school
in Brooklyn
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man I#693 (November, 2012)
Powers/Abilities:
The Alpha Males had no superhuman powers but were rather virtually
mindless clones (they could follow the Jackal's instructions, and they
thought they had their genetic progenitor's powers) of Andrew Maguire.
Jackal described them as globs of
"clone goo," and they may or may not have had actual skeletons and/or
internal organs.
History:
(Amazing Spider-Man II#693 - BTS) - The Jackal and one of
his Spiderzons
came to the Maguire house, where they quickly subdued Alpha (via the
Spiderzon spitting some sort of venom-darts from its mouth), and his
parents, Joan Conway and Paula. The Jackal took Alpha and
the others to his lair, an abandoned school in Brooklyn, where he bound
Alpha in a white-noise helmet and Carbonadium shackles then harvested
his genetic material to create the Alpha Males, a group of clones of
him to be part of an unstoppable army of the most powerful beings on
the planet.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#693) - Spider-Man traced Alpha's energies to the Jackal's base and confronted him, but the Jackal unleashed the Alpha Males on him...only to discover that Andy's powers hadn't altered his DNA, making the Alpha Males nothing but mindless clones of an ordinary teenager.
The Jackal then used his equipment to
try and drain Maguire's
powers at the expense of the boy's life and ordered the Spiderzons to
eat everyone else there. Spider-Man tried to inspire Andy to overcome
the odds to save his family, but Andy misinterpreted it, seeing his
powers as the only thing that made his life worthwhile. He broke free
of his restraints and destroyed the Alpha Males, prompting the Jackal
to make all the clones there (himself included) self-destruct, leaving
Alpha and the others covered in degenerated clone-goo but otherwise
unharmed.
Seeing the errors he'd made, Alpha
hired Joan Conway as his
personal agent/lawyer, had himself emancipated from his parents and
moved to a Manhattan penthouse, where he hooked up with a purple-haired
pop star.
