History:

willow-8116-ei15-maybe (Epic Illustrated#15/4: Dreadstar) - On Tortorelzor, in the tunnel leading to the hangar deck, Vanth Dreadstar and the cat-man Oedi encountered a trio of deacons, who they swiftly incapacitated and continued on their way, unaware that a woman had followed them (see comments).

As they took off in Ship #Delta457 (or something like the delta symbol, with a small break in the center of the bottom/horizontal portion of the triangle) from Hangar Deck #57, they were instructed to return to the hangar twice and given a final warning...but nothing happened?

(Epic Illustrated#15/4: Dreadstar - BTS) - Aboard Ship #Delta457, renamed "Big Bundle," Vanth and Oedi allowed Syzygy Darklock to dock the Lightcutter II within the cargo ship, and they began making steps for the next step in Plan M.

(Dreadstar#1 (fb) - BTS) - Willow (along with her pet/friend Rainbow) joined Dreadstar, Syzygy Darklock and Oedi's band of revolutionaries "around the time they liberated their cargo ship from the Instrumentality.

(Dreadstar#1) - While Oedi remained behind on their ship, Willow joined Vanth and Syzgy (and a robot loading crew) entered an Instrumentality Treasure Satellite to acquire some wealth to fund their revolution. When they were confronted by a sentry-rob demanding identification, Willow entered the robot's electronic mind, convincing it that they were authorized to be there, and it allowed them to pass. Syzygy and Willow further sensed a human mind within the satellite, although his mind was somehow shielded from Willow's powers. After Oedi reported an alarm being transmitted from the satellite, Willow opened the computerized vault doors, and she and the others were impressed by the massive wealth contained therein. willow-8116-ds1-fight

The human mind within a robot form subsequently knocked out Syzygy, and Vanth used his sword to destroy the cyborg. As Willow was repulsed that the Church could have done that to someone, Vanth had the robots begin loading and sent Syzygy back to the ship with them.

Before the robots could finish, an Intrumentality Destroyer materialized by the satellite. Instrumentality robots, deacons, and other warriors materialized into the satellite, and Vanth took out most of them, while Willow took out others with mind blasts and devastatingly precise laser fire. When they found the stairways crowded with Instrumentality soldiers and priests, Vanth tore a quick exit through the floor with his sword and carried Willow down to the next level. As they rushed to the next passageway, however, Vanth took a laser through his right shoulder, while another blast shattered Willow's blaster. Willow took out a trio of warriors
with a series of physical strikes, allowing Vanth to recover and destroy the robot.

Vanth then had Willow get herself and Rainbow suited up for a space jump, after which he tore a rent in the hull, pulling them out into space. Correctly gambling that the destroyer's captain had considered the situation under control and did not have their shields up, Vanth channeled power through his sword to overload the destroyer's power supply, leaving it dead in space.

Vanth then propelled them back to their ship with his sword, and they prepared to use their wealth to move forward with Plan M.

Dreadstar / Reality-8116 primer

Willow is one of my all-time favorite comic book characters. I named a pet dog after her (scroll down to "in memoriam" on this page).

    First appearance?

Dreadstar#1's synopses and editorial notes confused me, and I thought it was saying that this woman was Dreadstar's soon to be teammate Willow.

Despite the cover/indicia dating, according to the Marvel Database, Epic Illustrated was released on October 12, 1982, and Dreadstar#1 was released on October 19, 1982.
