History: (Marvel Team-Up II#2) - Dr. Zeus was a scientist in Greece, whose mastery of genetic engineering lead to him creating his own versions of monsters from Greek mythology, including the Medusa, Minotaur, Harpy, Sphinx and Cerberus. At some level, he came to believe that he himself was the god Zeus, and set in motion a plot to restore Greece to to what he believed was its glory days.

He sent out his Menagerie of Myth to attack locals in Crete, but the Menagerie was opposed and defeated by Spider-Man and Hercules. They followed the Sphinx back to Dr. Zeus lab, just as he was about to use his Medusa to make everyone watching television turn into stone. Spider-Man webbed up Dr. Zeus' cameras, making him unable to complete the broadcast, and he was terrified to discover that he was facing the true Hercules of myth. To escape Hercules' punishment, he gazed into the eyes of his Medusa, and became transformed into stone.
