History:

(Marvel Comics Presents I#149/4) - The Blue Diver was a submarine used by a group of eco-warriors to patrol the sea in search of environmental crimes. Once a year it passed the canyons near Atlantis in the Antarctic Ocean and Namor watched over it. One year the Blue Diver found barrels of radioactive waste on the ground of the Antarctic Ocean; while taking photos of these they were rammed by the Darkstar, a Typhoon Class Submarine. The Darkstar fired torpedoes at the Blue Diver and Namor tried to save it, but he was not fast enough and the Blue Diver was buried under an avalanche of rubble. Namor didn't give up and got the Blue Diver out from beneath the debris and brought it and its crew up to the surface again.

Funny! On the cover inside they called the submarine the Deep Diver, but in the story it was called the Blue Diver. I just added it as an alias.

It was never mentioned in the story which corporation was behind the Darkstar, but it could've been Roxxon.

The Darkstar wasn't damaged, but it probably was confiscated by the United States Coast Guard after they failed to destroy the Blue Diver.

Captain Paine

He was the Captain of the Darkstar and a very smart tactician. First he ordered the dumping of radioactive waste on the ground of the Antarctic Ocean to lure the Blue Diver there, then he nearly rammed it and shot two torpedoes at it. The torpedoes hit the wall of a canyon and the Blue Diver was buried. Paine ordered more radioactive waste dumped to fake a core breach when Namor appeared. The plan worked again and Namor helped to protect the sea from an environmental disaster. Paine then ordered the firing of more torpedoes at the canyon to bury Namor and the Blue Diver once and for all. He was really surprised when he came to the surface with the Darkstar to be welcomed by Namor together with the arriving United States Coast Guard.

Lt. Sanchez

Sanchez seemed to be the first in command after Captain Paine. He wasn't so sure about the plans of Paine who got angry at him more than once. In the end he always took the orders of Paine and obeyed them. He was afraid of Namor when he saw how big he was and when he came to the surface again he couldn't believe that Namor was already there after being buried beneath tons of rubble. Sanchez immediately raised his hands to surrender when he left the Darkstar.
