First Appearance: Marvel Comics Presents I#101 (April, 1992)

Powers: Gormac is a Type 2 demon, being one which resides in a realm known as hell and dates from a later period than the Elder Gods (Chthon, Set, etc.). He is subserviant to Mephisto and is described by Dr. Strange as being a minor demon. Still, he has the ability to cast illusions, grant his followers powers, and create dimensional doorways.

History: BTS- Gormac amassed a Cult dedicated to his worship in New York City. Their worship of him granted him power to hide his activities from Mephisto.

(Marvel Comics Presents I#105 (fb, BTS))- Gormac decided he needed to leave Mephisto's realm. To do this he needed the sacrifice of Kevin Moran, whose mother was a member of his cult. Kevin's father didn't want to see his son killed, so Kevin's mother killed him by throwing alcohol in his face while he was smoking, causing him to burn to death. The event scarred Kevin who became a homeless runaway.

(Marvel Comics Present I#101-105)- Gormac's agents finally caught up with Kevin and forced him through a magical doorway into Gormac's portion of Mephisto's realm. There, Gormac tried to convince Kevin that he was his father to get his aid, but Kevin escaped as he had not entered Gormac's realm of his own free will. Gorn then punished his agents and sent them after Kevin again.

Meanwhile, Ghost Rider confronted Eugene Stone, a serial killer, and made him feel the pain of his victims with his Penance Stare. Stone then attempted suicide by leaping off a building. As he lay dying, Stone was found by agents of Gormac who brought him to their master's realm where he was transformed into Pain.

Kevin had meanwhile encountered both Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider, who were working together to help him. Kevin was seperated from the heroes, however, and Gormac's agents confronted him. When Strange and Ghost Rider arrived, Kevin, faced with his inner guilt over his father's death, leapt into the doorway to Mephisto's realm. Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider followed.

In hell, Kevin was faced with his memories of his father's death, while Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange faced the demon horde. The duo finally reached Kevin and confronted Gormac. Gormac fought the heroes while explaining his plan to escape from Mephisto's realm to earth and to eventually supplant Mephisto himself. He was quickly beaten by Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange, who left with Kevin to confront his mother. Gormac was then approached by Mephisto, who wasn't very happy...

Comments: Created by Howard Mackie and Rick Leonardi

The demon known on earth as Gormac is actually named Gorn, his name in the dimensions of demons. Apparently he uses the alias Gormac due to the power that a demon's real name has over it. For a good example of why demons fear their true name being discovered see Hellstorm#16.

Gormac may have been killed by Mephisto at the end of the story, or maybe not. Either way he could easily return, his being a demon and all.

Pain, Eugene Stone, has no known connection to:

Pain, Eugene Stone, was a serial killer of children who was on the receiving end of Ghost Rider's penance stare. He attempted suicide afterwards, but was taken by Gormac and transformed into Pain to serve him. After arriving in Mephisto's realm alongside Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange, he was transformed further to resemble a living skeleton.
