History:
(New Mutants II#11 (fb) - BTS) - Gail Collins fell under the sway of an emotion-manipulating mutant, Sean Garrison, and stayed with him for a time. When his powers no longer worked on her, Gail fled from the man, but later realized she was pregnant. She had her daughter Laurie and raised her on her own.

(New Mutants II#11 (fb) ) - Gail worked long hours as she raised Laurie alone, and she never dated or tried to make friends. When Laurie turned 13, Gail took her on vacation and she saw that Laurie had developed pheromone powers like her father's. Gail took Laurie back home and explained that she couldn't ethically use her powers on others, and Laurie withdrew within herself. When Laurie's powers still acted out, Gail enrolled Laurie at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, then Gail moved to Salem Center to be near her daughter.

(New Mutants II#6) - At the Xavier Institute, Gail waited with Charles Xavier and Xi'an Coy Manh's siblings. She greeted Laurie as she returned from a mission. Laurie introduced her classmates Sofia (Wind Dancer) and David (Prodigy) to her mother.

(New Mutants II#8) - Gail showed up to support Laurie at the school during parent week.

(New X-Men II#9) - Gail served dinner for Laurie and her friend Elixir, who came over. Gail jokingly commended Elixir for not complaining about her cooking.

(New X-Men II#12) - Laurie confided in Gail about how Elixir had lied to her and she'd used her powers to make Elixir go away. Gail told Laurie to never use her powers that way, and Laurie stormed away in anger. Distressed, Gail pulled out an old photo of she and Sean.

(New X-Men II#14) - After not seeing Laurie for several days, Gail agreed to chaperone at a school dance, where she interacted with Cyclops and Emma Frost before she saw Prodigy escort Laurie in. She was very disappointed when she saw Laurie using her powers to manipulate Prodigy and Wind Dancer.

(New X-Men II#15) - Gail went to the school's prize-giving ceremony where she chatted with Wind Dancer about her concerns over Laurie. Laurie soon saw her mother but ignored her completely. When the Blob attacked the school, he punched a gate and it hit Gail, knocking her down. As Agent Justin Pierce and Danielle Moonstar got Gail to safety, Magma held the Blob off. As the New Mutants and Hellions worked together to defeat Blob, Elixir healed Gail from her injuries. Laurie and Gail made amends and embraced.

(New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook I#1) - Gail visited Laurie at the school.

(New X-Men II#28 (fb) - BTS) - Gail received word that Laurie had been killed in combat, when the X-students fought the villainous Kaga.

(New X-Men II#28) - Gail arrived at the school in tears and was greeted by Emma Frost. While Surge watched, Prodigy tried giving an apology to Gail, but she just slapped him, then she was shown in to see Laurie's body.
