History:
(Uncanny X-Men I#506 (fb) - BTS) - Yuriko Takiguchi established a base on
Japan's Kunashir Island.

(Uncanny X-Men I#506 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Yuriko created the Godzilla-like Leviathan.

Fearing that the Russians would invade and capture him, Yuriko set up Leviathan as a self-destruct event to destroy his base and research to prevent its being taken by others.

(Uncanny X-Men I#506 - BTS) - Beast (Hank McCoy), Angel/Archangel (Warren Worthington), Dr. Nemesis (James Bradley), and Madison Jeffries traveled to Kunashir Island in search of Yuriko. leviathan-takiguchi-ux507-death

(Uncanny X-Men I#506 (fb) - BTS) - Assuming the invaders to be Russians, Yuriko initiated the self-destruct event.

(Uncanny X-Men I#506) - As the visitors sealed the bunker, Yuriko confronted them, asking who they were and how they intended to escape the self-destruct event, which soon revealed itself as Leviathan.

(Uncanny X-Men I#507) - As Leviathan approached, apparently hurling giant rocks at Yuriko's bunker, Jeffries asked Yuriko if he had machinery around that he could use to create weapons, but Yuriko advised him that Leviathan was too powerful for anything that might be assembled from his scraps; he further noted that Leviathan was only soft on the inside.

Worthington then mutated into his Archangel form and confronted Leviathan.

As Nemesis fired pneumatic syringes at Leviathan and urged Jeffries to help provide cover for Worthington, Yuriko advised them that they were both fools as their deaths were assured.

Flying past Leviathan and evading a swipe of his paws, Archangel then launched a number of his metallic feathers, tipped with a paralyzing chemical, into Leviathan before flying by his face and slashing his left cheek.

As Leviathan roared in pain and rage, Archangel flew into his mouth and out through the back of his head/neck, apparently perforating his brainstem or spinal cord.

(Uncanny X-Men I#507 - BTS) - Nemesis warned the others to watch out: "Big bastard's gotta fall somewhere."

flew through Leviathan's mouth and out the back of his head, killing him.

Comments: Created by Matt Fraction, Terry Dodson, and Rachel Dodson.

The creature was not identified in its first appearance, but with it being Yuriko Takiguchi's secret weapon, it seemed to be implied that it was Godzilla...sadly, not the case, as copyright/trademark issues would have caused some major problems.
