History: (The Adventures of Homer Ghost I#2/3 (fb) - BTS) - Doctor Doom secretly created the large humanoid robot Monstro for world domination in his castle-like laboratory atop a hill. The police later pursued him for unrevealed crimes.

(The Adventures of Homer Ghost I#2/3) - The Ghost Gang (Dugan, Homer, Melvin, Zelda) chanced upon Doom frantically running through the street. He sought their help, claiming he was being chased (but left out the police part). They made it safely to Doom's lab, where he revealed Monstro, but never intended to let the Ghost Gang free for fear they would reveal his secrets. He briefly hypnotized Melvin, then had Monstro throw Homer out the window -- to no effect as Homer levitated. Scared, Doom fled riding Monstro and used the robot to quickly raid a bank, then flew off to escape. Realizing his nefarious ways, the Ghost Gang gave chase. Zelda the witch cast a spell that stopped Monstro in mid-flight and they crashed into a police station. Doom quickly recovered and the police chase continued anew.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee (writer) and Tony DiPreta (pencils & inks).

Given he described himself a "mad scientist" and "spoke like a comic book villain," I consider Doctor Doom to be an identity he created rather than part of his name.

Seems Dr. Doom and Monstro were popular names with Stan Lee!

Profile by Grendel Prime.

CLARIFICATIONS :
Dr. Doom has no known connections to:

Monstro

Monstro was a large metallic humanoid robot that stood about 8' tall. It was very strong, capable of smashing through stone walls and ripping metal doors. It could fly through unrevealed means.

Monstro was created by Doctor Doom as a secret weapon to conquer the world. Doom revealed Monstro to the Ghost Gang (Dugan, Homer, Melvin, Zelda) for helping him escape the police, but he then ordered the robot to fling Homer out the window to keep their silence. Homer instead levitated, so Doom escaped scared riding Monstro, quickly raiding a bank on the way. Monstro launched into the air with Doom and the stolen money, but Zelda the witch cast a spell that stopped Monstro in mid-flight. It crashed into a nearby police station and fell apart.
