It was not clear if he still possessed that level of power following the burning of the Word of God.

While partially merged with/possessed by the Forgotten, Joao could levitate and manifested extra arms and heads. He could also generate smoke-based illusions of certain events but he was bound by blood to his sister Nina and could not directly act against her orders.

History: (Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Joao first introduced his sister Nina to magic by showing her a magic trick. Years later, after Joao had escaped from prison, he disappeared for days, prompting Nina, who had become a sorceress in her own right, to mount a search for him. Having become corrupted by the mystic Forgotten, Joao was drawn back to the Age of Camelot, to a book called the Word of God, which the Forgotten could not grasp. After arriving in the Camelot era, the corrupted Joao was captured by sorcerer Merlin and locked away with the other corrupted mystics in a cell outside of time called the Hollow.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4 (fb)) - Inside, Merlin's magic sigils became corrosive to Joao and the other Forgotten mystics and they merged into a single, collective entity.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4) - During a battle between the gestalt Forgotten being and several time-displaced Sorcerers Supreme including Joao's sister Nina, Sir Isaac Newton cast a spell that separated Joao and the other mystics into individual beings once more and Nina quickly ran to her corrupted brother, reminding the weakened Joao that she would always find him. Unfortunately, Newton attempted to claim the Forgotten's Word of God book for himself and became a god, sealing Nina and the Sorcerers Supreme back within the Hollow prison.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#5) - As the others who made up the Forgotten departed, Nina pleaded with Joao to free the Sorcerers Supreme from their prison. Unsure who to trust, Joao asked if Nina and the Sorcerers Supreme had been planning to lock away the Forgotten again and Nina apologized. Accepting her apology, Joao exclaimed that he had no key for the prison, only a spell from the Word of God book, which he cast, destroying the prison and freeing the Sorcerers, only to watch as the Sorcerers fell into a dimensional exile trap set by Newton.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#6) - The severely weakened Joao leaned against the wall of the Forgotten's prison and remained there while Dr. Strange rescued the other Sorcerers Supreme from Newton's dimensional trap. When the Sorcerers returned, Nina saw the weakened Joao and rushed to comfort him as Demon Rider cast a spell that located Newton in present-day New York. Traveling there with Joao in tow, the Sorcerers Supreme arrived to find Sir Isaac Newton battling the Avengers.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#7) - Nina held up the rapidly deteriorating Joao as his skin turned pale. When Joao began mumbling about stopping Newton and how the more Newton spoke from the Word of God, the closer he came to waking something up, Nina informed Dr. Strange that Joao was getting worse and Strange had Earth-13729's Wiccan teleport Nina, Joao and the injured Yao to the hospital where Night Nurse worked. Barely able to stand upon arrival at the hospital, Joao collapsed, still mumbling that Newton must be stopped. Night Nurse quickly got Joao into a bed and started an IV of fluids to combat Joao's dehydration. Joao's rest was interrupted, however, when he jumped up in bed and announced that it was too late and the Author of the Word of God was coming. Crying, Joao soon began rambling about the Author coming and began glowing green and levitating above his bed before expelling energy that knocked all present over.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#8) - Still glowing green and beginning to take on more of the gestalt Forgotten features, a levitating Joao hovered over the unconscious forms of Nina, Night Nurse and Yao and announced that his master had returned. Having heard the noise, Howard the Duck investigated and Joao ordered Howard to take him to his master or die. Luke Cage arrived shortly after and Nina soon regained consciousness and began creating a mystic sigil with her blood. Noticing, the possessed Joao claimed a mere binding spell would not do anything but when Nina cast the spell, Joao was indeed bound to her by blood and Nina quickly demanded to know what had happened to the real Joao. Joao responded by giving some background on his master, the Author of the Word of God, but Nina interrupted, demanding her brother back. The possessed Joao claimed that the real Joao was misguided and had fallen in with the Forgotten after speaking from the Word of God, and that Joao was now bound to his master. When Nina asked who Joao's master was and how she could kill him, Joao explained the Author of the Word of God's origins and was soon forced to accompany Nina, Yao, Luke Cage and Howard the Duck to the site where the other Sorcerers Supreme and the Avengers were battling the Author. During the battle, Sir Isaac Newton became one of the Forgotten and turned the Word of God tome over to the Author but before the Author could utilize its power, Earth-13729's Wiccan used his Mark of Sorrow to teleport everyone with magical properties, including the possessed Joao, to the Author's home dimension. Once there, the possessed Joao took a place next to the Author.

(Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#9) - The possessed Joao remained by the Author's side as the Author prepared to kill Yao and witnessed the Sorcerers Supreme trick the Author into burning the Word of God tome. Watching as the Sorcerers managed to destroy the Author of the Word of God, Joao was restored to his proper mind and body state before Sir Isaac Newton, who was equally restored, transported Joao, the Sorcerers Supreme and their allies back to Earth using the last remnants of the Word of God tome. Back on Earth, Nina checked on Joao, who admitted he felt tired and ashamed following his ordeal. Nina then informed Dr. Strange that she needed to get Joao and herself back home to their proper time period and Earth-13729's Wiccan subsequently teleported Joao and Nina back home.

One could argue that Joao was behind-the-scenes in every appearance of the gestalt Forgotten but he was not seen or identified in any way (nor do he do any action that we are aware of) prior to his appearance in Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme I#4. Plus, this profile only covers Joao himself and not the Forgotten, who have their own entry (which is linked to above).
