ogre
(Asgardian)

Real Name: Unrevealed

Identity/Class: Extradimensional (Asgard) magical being (ogre)

Occupation: Hunter, trapper, predator

Group Membership: Presumably a member of a race of ogres

Affiliations: None known

Enemies: Balder Odinson, Greyval Grimson, Oddbrand Otter

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Underneath an icy bridge in the chasm separating Asgard from the lands of the dead...specifically near Valhalla.

First Appearance: Marvel Graphic Novel No. 15: The Raven Banner (1985)

Powers/Abilities: The ogre was sufficiently strong to smash Balder, who could lift 35 tons, off balance with a single strike (Class 75?). Though superhumanly durable, he could be wounded by fine Asgardian steel. As a magical being of the godly realm, he is likely resistant to aging and conventional disease. The ogre has four fingers and a thumb on each hand, but only three toes per foot. With only a thin central stripe of hair on his head, he has bushy eyebrows, a hairy back and shoulders, and sufficient hair in the lower abdomen to cover his uncovered things...as he didn't wear any sort of pants.

The ogre fed on other beings, preferring to devour larger sources of meat, like gods and other god-like creatures, but he probably would eat anything he could get his hands on given the chance. He relished consuming every part of his prey, and also enjoyed taunting his opponents with how he planned to eat them.

Height: Approximately 10' (approximation based on comparison to Balder)
Weight: Approximately 1395 lbs. (based on estimated height)
Eyes: Unrevealed
Hair: Black/gray

History:
(Marvel Graphic Novel#15: The Raven Banner (fb) - BTS) - The ogre dwelled in the Enchanted Chasm monitoring a bridge between Valhalla and Asgard, and attempting to devour any who tried to cross the bridge.

(Marvel Graphic Novel#15: The Raven Banner (fb) - BTS) - The ogre found Oddbrand Otter - unconscious after bumping his head around the Gopul river and being carried away to end up lost in the Enchanted Chasm -- and bound him. The ogre swore he would eat Oddbrand's eyballs with muck radish after he'd skinned Oddbrand alive to make a fur pillow for his head.

(Marvel Graphic Novel #15: The Raven Banner) - As Greyval Grimson and Balder Odinson attempted to cross the bridge to Valhalla, they heard Oddbrand wailing of his intended fate. The ogre queried who would pass over his span, and when they answered, the ogre clamored atop the bridge and told them, "not forward nor back but stay where you are, for your brains and bones will fill my belly." As he confronted them, he added, "What a feast. What a treat! I'll gnaw on your ribs and pick your stringy flesh from my teeth at leisure with a dragontail spike." When Balder thrust his sword at the ogre and missed, the ogre threatened to "pickle your limbs -- and garnish your jellied head with muck scallions" as his retaliatory blow knocked Balder's sword from his hand and Balder over the edge of the bridge, leaving him hanging precariously.

Having been suffering a crisis of courage, Greyval at least feared what would happen if he lost Balder sufficiently to drive him to strike the ogre in the lower calf. As the ogre bellowed in pain and cried for his ankle, Greyval helped Balder back atop the bridge, and the two rushed forward, freed Oddbrand, and continued their quest.

Let's see...god, giants, dwarves, elves (dark and light), trolls, fire demons...yep, standard Asgardian creatures...Ogres? I don't recall other mention of ogres in Asgardian myth, or in the Marvel stories/mythos. If you have information to share on the ogres of Asgard, please pass it my way.
