History: (Wolverine II#900/3 (fb) - BTS) - Through unrevealed circumstances and at an undetermined point in time, Carapace was cast out of regular society. She found her way to the Morlocks, an underground mutant community that lived in the sewer tunnels of New York.

(Wolverine II#900/3 (fb)) - Through unrevealed ways, three off-line Sentinels were suddenly powered up and they returned to their prime directive of hunting and eliminating mutants. They headed straight for the Morlock tunnels. Luckily, the X-Men gained early intel on the situation and arrived to rescue the Morlocks. In the midst of battle, Carapace tried to rescue fellow Morlock Poser from a Sentinel's blast by pushing her out of harm's way. However, possibly due to lack of proper training, she failed to activate her impenetrable shell in time and wound up with a piece of shrapnel stuck in her chest. She rapidly began to lose blood, going into shock and fully manifesting her shell right before passing out. Beast and Wolverine took care of Carapace and led a small group of five Morlocks to flee from the Sentinel attacks.

(Wolverine II#900/3 (fb)) - On the run from the Sentinels, the group was surprised by a tunnel collapse. Finding themselves caught in a small cavern, Beast decided he needed to operate on the wounded girl to save her life. The other Morlocks helped out: Matchstick Girl lit up the cavern with her fiery hands with Ape becoming a mirror to reflect the light source. Poser then made sure Beast could operate by posing as Leech, mimicking his power-canceling abilities. This allowed Beast to successfully perform surgery and not too long afterwards, Marrow rescued all of them by extending her bone growths into the rubble and blasting it apart. Now free, Carapace and the other Morlocks went their own way.

According to Wikipedia, a carapace is a dorsal (upper) section of the exoskeleton or shell in a number of animal groups, including arthropods such as crustaceans and arachnids, as well as vertebrates such as turtles and tortoises. In turtles and tortoises, the underside is called the plastron.

The Morlocks called her Cara, given Marvel's penchant for naming characters after their powers or codenames, it might be her real name. Though it might as well have been part of her codename.

The X-Men team seen fighting the Sentinels consisted of Cyclops, Beast, Wolverine and Archangel.

According to the issue, the story takes place after the events of X-Men II#75.
