History:

(Ultraverse II Origins card #83 (fb) - BTS) - An opportunity presented itself for catburglar Whitney Richards to assume the role of Masque, a heroic mercenary who had been missing for four months.

(Ultraverse II Origins card #83) - As Masque, she became a reluctant hero fighting the high level of crime in the city. She likely needed the aid of Scourge to achieve this.

Comments: Created by Hank Kanalz (writer) and  Jerome Moore (art).

And that's it! An initial image in an advert followed by a brief outline in the trading cards (including her codename), but Masque never made it into an actual comic storyline - she's a "shouldabeen". Masque also had a small headshot on the cover of the Ultraverse Origins anthology comic (January, 1994), which featured a montage of characters in the Ultraverse with their own titles. Perhaps she, like the Persuaders, were wiped out by the reality wave that restructured the Ultraverse in the wake of Black September... (Of course, there may have been copyright problems with Marvel given that it already had established characters with these names - although the Ultraverse cards show them to be trademarked).

The advert indicated that the title for her upcoming (but never realized) story/comic was "Masquerade".

Any further info on Masque and Scourge from the creators or ex-Malibu crew would be very much appreciated! (Rumor has it that the character was eventually morphed into Siren...? Note the similarity in appearance).

Masque

The original Masque was a highly paid mercenary who hadn't been reported active on The Board (?) for four months. Whitney Richards assumed her identity.

Scourge

Duncan Thorpe returned to his home city to find it overrun with crime and discovered his slain father's secret lair. He took on the identity of the Scourge to continue his father's war on crime, but it was implied to be more violent. It was suggested that Masque needed his help.

His cape appeared to be feathered, so it may be that he was intended to have flight capabilities.
