History: (Defenders I#92) - Eternity, the cosmic embodiment of the universe, sought to learn more of humanity and so sent several of aspects of himself all over the universe to experience humanity. After gathering these aspects, which had experienced individual human lives in which they interacted with other humans and learned individual existence, Eternity felt peace. However, he soon realized that three of his aspects (pictured, left to right: Ivan, Socrates, Anand) had failed to return, and postulated that unless they returned, all existence would end. Eternity called out to Earth's Defenders for aid. The individual aspects had vast powers, though the only abilities known were to perceive universal events and to create powerful psychokinetic constructs.

One aspect had taken the form of a worshipper of the god Lord Rama, Rama's wife Sita, and their simian servant Hanuman, at a monastery in India. The aspect, taking the name Sai Anand, became the leader of the monastery, and was beloved. When Anand went missing, his followers assumed he was kidnapped. He created a psycho-kinetic construct of Hanuman to warn the monastery's followers of evil ones approaching, as Anand sensed that the Defenders would be there. Heroes Hellcat and Son of Satan arrived and tracked Anand, who had the construct of Hanuman attack them, though they soon toppled it.

A second aspect took refuge in Korinsk, Russia, as a slow-witted child named Ivan. A couple named Anya and Rodian took him in and took joy in raising him. Ivan eventually created mythical Snow Giants to attack the town and he disappeared when they attacked. Heroes Hulk and Nighthawk soon defeated the giants (also psychokinetic constructs) and then pursued Ivan. They were briefly frozen solid, but broke free.

The third aspect took the name Socrates Carvopolis, a shipping magnate in Patras, Greece. He married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Langwood, and the two developed a great love together. Socrates created a psychokinetic construct of a harpy to carry him away. Lizzie hired guards to protect her, and the guards were vanquished by Sub-Mariner and Valkyrie when they arrived to investigate. Lizzie told them of her plight, and was saddened when Sub-Mariner told her that their chances of Socrates' surviving were null. The heroes pursued and were attacked by the Harpy and a psycho-kinetic merman, Glaucus (both being taken from Greek legend). They quickly defeated both constructs and moved forward, bursting through a door to find Socrates.

The heroes all ended up in the same place, where they discovered it was the aspects themselves that did not want to return to Eternity. The aspects desired to maintain their humanity, willing to let the universe perish. They held the heroes off as the universe began to unravel around them, causing Hulk to vanquish Valkyrie, subduing Hulk and Son of Satan, draining Namor's energy, and frightening Hellcat. With only Nighthawk left standing, the aspects focused on Eternity, who was being tentatively held together by Earth mystics Dr. Strange and Clea. Nighthawk appealed to the aspects, making them realize that true humanity required sacrifice, and that their loved ones were suffering without them. The aspects realized their mistakes and immediately shed their forms, returning to Eternity.
