History: (Defenders II#7 (fb) - BTS) - While much of Nagala's origins are unrevealed, it is known that she is a Lemurian descendant and heir of Naga, former holder of the original Serpent Crown, which was destroyed (see Naga's profile).  Nagala recreated a new Serpent Crown.  Under unknown circumstances, she allied with Attuma and agreed to help defend Atlantis from the Defenders as part of Deep Six.

(Defenders II#7) - The Defenders attacked Deep Six and Nagala successfully held off Doctor Strange with her magic until the Defenders were zapped away by their curse.

(Defenders II#11) - The Defenders attacked Deep Six on the borders of Atlantis again.  As a large battle broke out, Nagala focused her attention on the agile Hellcat.  Nagala was perplexed why they would send Hellcat against her, and on how Nagala's spells seemed to slide off of Hellcat's form.  Nagala soon trapped Hellcat in a sphere, determined to find out more, but Strange protected Hellcat with a magic shield.  Nagala focused on Strange and put up a barrier that kept other opponents from closing in.  She found herself stymied by Strange's spells.  She began to grow weaker and weaker as the Silver Surfer removed the oxygen from the water around her.  Nagala soon lost concentration and Strange defeated her and took her crown away with him.

(New Thunderbolts#3 (fb)-BTS) - Taking upon themselves the name of At'La'Tique, an ancient Atlantean phrase meaning the 'Fury of the Sea,' the religious rebels followed various leaders, including Nagala, Shakkoth, and Tamara Rahn.  They formed a strike force called Fathom Five, which included Dragonrider, Llyron, Bloodtide, Sea Leopard, and Manowar.  At'La'Tique's primary religious beliefs involved wiping out life on the surface world.  To achieve this goal, they formed an alliance with Baron Strucker of HYDRA.

(New Thunderbolts#3) - Nagala, again wearing the Serpent Crown, and Tamara Rahn watched as Fathom Five battled an Atlantean army on At'La'Tique's borders.  Nagala reviewed the strengths of the Fathom Five members and watched as Llyron severed a surface world communication line.

(New Thunderbolts#6 - BTS) - Fathom Five was defeated and imprisoned.

(New Thunderbolts#9 - BTS) - Llyron, who'd been infected by a radioactive virus by Radioactive Man, was imprisoned in Atlantis and infected the people there until Radioactive Man reversed the virus.  He then infected Tamara Rahn, planning on her infecting all of At'La'Tique after she returned there.

(Marvel Tarot#1 - BTS) - Sorcerer Ian McNee turned over a mystic tarot card revealing Nagala to be one of Earth's current representations of the Emperor card. He was mystified that a female would appear on the card, and wondered if she was somehow blended with Naga. He also surmised that Nagala was a direct descendant of Set, the elder God.

(Marvel Tarot#1 - BTS) - Ian McNee had read about a prophecy concerning the seventh child of set (a seventh generation descendent) ushering in a new golden age for the Serpent Men. According to McNee's calculations, the mother of the new dark prince could be either serpentine assassin Yith or the Lemurian Nagala.

(Mystic Arcana: Scarlet Witch#1 (fb) - BTS) - Nagala was crowned as the new queen of Set.

(Mystic Arcana: Scarlet Witch#1/3) - Nagala returned to the floor of the Atlantic Ocean where she confronted the now monstrous Llyra, who begrudgingly let her enter the chasm that contained the immense Serpent Crown. There Nagala invoked the seven names of Set and formed a new Serpent Crown atop her head. Upon leaving the chasm, she found Ian McNee in Llyra's coils. McNee drew on the power of the Ebon Rose petal he had consumed to tangle Llyra in Nagala in seaweed, from which they easily tore free. Ian pretended to beg for his life, offering to guide Nagala to the whole Ebon Rose if she would spare him. As she imagined that the Ebon Rose, combined with the Serpent Crown would make her more powerful even than Set himself, Llyra metamorphosized into even more monstrous form and attacked her for her audacity. As the two struggled, Ian claimed the Serpent Crown and escaped to the surface.

(Mystic Arcana: Sister Grimm#1) - Ian asked the First Tarot for aid in his quest, and the advice he received, including some from Nagala via the Emperor card, led him to question the quest's true nature. Nagala noted that Lord Set had not cast Ian into the Serpent's Sea, so who else had the power to do such a thing?
