History:
(
Sailor's Story (fb) - BTS) - Jothon Warren was one of a number of men on Borneo who were paid a bounty for every dead Japanese soldier they brought in.

    Since the last visit by American sailors, Jothon and his men slew three Japanese soldiers.warren-jotho-borneo-shadows

(Sailor's Story (fb) - BTS) <Sometime before the Japanese surrender in September 2, 1945> - Sam Glanzman and other sailors aboard the USS Stevens were given "liberty" (a chance to leave the ship and either go out in a small boat +/- go to land for some recreation) on Borneo.

(Sailor's Story (fb) (fb)) - Having never been there before they were surprised when Jotho and his men, who carried spears and axes and looked like head hunters, approached. They were even more surprised when Jotho spoke to them in English, greeting the "chaps" and telling them that he and his friends had come to collect the bounty and that they had three. The sailors subsequently learned that this meant they had slain three Japanese soldiers that they were bringing in for bounty money.

Comments: Jothon Warren was presumably a real person;
    Adapted to Marvel
by Sam Glanzman.

    A Sailor's Story and A Sailor's Story Book Two: Winds, Dreams and Dragons were both written by World War II veteran and sailor Sam Glanzman based on his real life experiences.

    As far as I can tell, this series is supposed to be something of an autobiographical account, so potentially Earth-1218 (the real world), but there's nothing to rule it out from having taken place on Earth-616 as well.

    Thanks to Loki for recommending this character to cover a Sailor's Story:

    Based on minimal research Jothon Warren's presumably a Dayak, one of a tribe of cannibal headhunters; under British rule this had been outlawed for several decades but when the Japanese invaded the Dayak took up their old ways against the invaders, while also taking in and looking after downed U.S. airmen.
