History:

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Serving in Limbo/Otherplace under Belasco, Vitchen considered him to have been a tyrant.

Vitchen remained in service as S'ym attempted to rule via the Technarch transmode virus.

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Shortly after taking over the role of ruler of aka Otherplace, Magik (Amanda Sefton) had her Earthly aide, Nugent, create a computer program/spell that began to assemble, catalog, and codify a database of arcane lore from all sources. Magik intended this to be a powerful weapon in her ongoing war, a research engine she could rely on, based in the mortal plane, untainted by the background magics that permeate the splinter realms.

(Magik II#4 (fb) - BTS) - The repository of magical knowledge evolved, drawing together all the vast elements of eldritch data within it and becoming...something else. From Nugent's machine sprang the Archenemy, an absolute force of magical evil. It accumulated more and more power over an undisclosed time and then returned from the far future to conquer and safeguard the time of its birth.vitchen-limboo-mii3-fullish

(Magik II#3 (fb) - BTS / Magik II#4 (fb) - BTS) - S'ym somehow became allied with the Archenemy, which allegedly promised S'ym that he would rule over Otherplace after the Archenemy had destroyed the other Splinter Realms. S'ym secretly took the form and identity of Duke Bleys, becoming one of Magik's chief advisors.

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS / Magik II#2 (fb) - BTS) - The Archenemy apparently consumed both Nightmare and much of his realm, adding it to its own power.

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Some demons from Nightmare's realm escaped the realm's destruction.

(Magik II#3 (fb) - BTS) - The Dark Dimension of Dormammu fell under the Archenemy's onslaught, although Dormammu escaped.

(Magik II#2 (fb) - BTS) - The Archenemy devastated Muspelheim, annihilating Surtur and his demon guards.

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Escaping/surviving demons from Nightmare's realm assaulted the fortified wall of Limbo/Otherplace that separated it from the rest of the Splinter Realms.

Vitchen cast an emergency summoning that pulled Amanda -- along with her companion, Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner), with whom she was in contact -- back to Otherplace.

(Magik II#1) - After Amanda and Kurt arrived, Vitchen appeared and told her of the sudden assault upon the great wall. Although Amanda told him to depart, Kurt instead asked Vitchen if he had a blade or two to spare so he could assist Amanda; Vitchen provided Kurt with a pair or blades. Alongside Amanda, Kurt and the forces of Otherplace, Vitchen fought off the invaders in a lengthy battle.

Vitchen subsequently announced the arrival of a visitor who had approached the main gate from among the dying fires of the battlefield, demanding an audience: Dormammu.

(Magik II#2) - Vitchen stood beside Magik as she confronted Dormammu, who subsequently forced Gleeg -- the decapitated captain of the Silurian guard, slain during the Archenemy's assault on Nightmare's realm, temporarily reanimated by Dormammu -- to tell of the slaughter of Nightmare's realm. vitchen-limboo-mii4-wounded

Dormammu subsequently proposed an alliance against their unidentified foe (later identified as the Archenemy, and used hereon for clarity's sake), and Amanda met with her advisors, and she first asked Vitchen for his opinion. He told her that such a pact was madness, as they knew Dormammu to be far too treacherous with whom to make bargains. Duke Bleys (secretly S'ym) shared Vitchen's concerns, but countered that there was clearly a great threat at their threshold and Dormammu's coming to them for aid proved it to be true.

Wishing proof, Magik stated that she and her armies would accompany Dormammu to the realm of Muspelheim. Vitchen began to protest, but Magik interrupted and insisted he do as she had bidden him, and he and the rest of the advisors voiced, "Yes, mistress."

While Dormammu and Magik rode steeds, Vitchen, along with Nightcrawler, the armies of Otherplace and the Mindless Ones, followed on foot. After surveying the destruction in Muspelheim, they encountered the Archenemy itself, which slaughtered Magik's warriors and Dormammu's Mindless Ones alike. While Vitchen and Kurt held the left flank, Magik used a stepping disk to transport herself, Dormammu, Nightcrawler, Vitchen and her surviving forces back to Otherplace, arrival within the fortress' martial fields. While Amanda departed to confer with Nugent, Vitchen noted to Kurt, "Close, eh, mortal?" Kurt replied, "Too close, Vitchen...even Dormammu feels it."

After Nugent had advised that their enemy's next target who be "Hades" (more correctly, Mephisto's realm of Hell), Magik met with Vitchen, telling him that they must prepare an expedition to Hell. After Amanda departed to sleep, Vitchen asked Kurt how he was not a stranger to Otherplace, and he related how he and his X-Men teammates had fought Belasco there more than once. Vitchen in turn noted his opinions and experienced with Belasco and S'ym, after which he asked about the contrast between Kurt's appearance and the priestly garb he sometimes wore.

(Magik II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Vitchen and Nightcrawler remained in Otherplace as Magik transported herself to Hell.

(Magik II#2 - BTS) - While Vitchen and the other fought Mephisto's guard, Magik transported within and forced Mephisto to appreciate the threat of the arriving Archenemy.

(Magik II#3 - BTS) - Finding his own vast power ineffective against the Archenemy, Mephisto accompanied Magik and her allies back to the Otherplace, escaping Hell before it fell under the Archenemy's assault.

(Magik II#3) - As Magik and Mephisto teleported into Otherplace's martial yard, Vitchen announced the arrival of their master and the Lord of Lies. Deciding that only a united force could oppose the Archenemy, Magik called a convocation of the Lords of the Splinter Realms.

(Magik II#3 - BTS) - The Lords of the Splinter Realms gathered in Otherplace, and after much debating, the Lords agreed that they had no choice but to put their trust in each other, and they made a pact of union, merging the Splinter-Realms into a single base from which they could act via a collective showering of energy, mingling of oaths, and mixing of demon-blood.

However, almost immediately after they had done so, Duke Bleys was revealed as S'ym. As the Archenemy itself arrived at the merged realm, S'ym revealed that they had actually made the Archenemy's job easier by creating a single easy target.

(Magik II#4) - Magik blew the Horn of Harrowing, calling the various Lords and their servants to confront the Archenemy. However, two hundred thousand died in the first second, and the Archenemy moved on, crushing the walls of the United Realm underfoot. Vitchen vanquished a thousand storm-forms before a brutal wound dropped him to his knees.

As her allies fell before the Archenemy, Magik convinced the survivors to unite their power once more and focus them through her so that she could cast a spell of divination to understand the nature of their foe. Vitchen assured his mistress that what power he could muster was hers to use.

(Magik II#4 - BTS) - As soon as she understood its true nature and origins, she transported Nightcrawler to Manhattan, where he destroyed Nugent's machine. Weakened by the destruction of its source of power, the Archenemy fell before Magik and her Soulsword, which destroyed it.

With the Archenemy destroyed, the United Realm swiftly splintered anew. Some, if not all, of the demon-lords were restored to existence over time.

Comments: Created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Liam McCormack Sharp.

Magik II#4 defined Vitchen as Magik's most loyal warrior.

Despite the cover saying "X-Men: Magik," the indicia just calls it Magik, and that's what the handbooks considered official, and so do we.

The 20th Century Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe under the guidance of Mark Gruenwald clearly stated that the true realm of Limbo was the one inhabited by Immortus, while Belasco/S'ym/Magik/N'astirh's realm was a limbo-realm (limbo meaning timeless, in this regard) best defined as Otherplace.
I support that whole-heartedly, and the 21st Century Handbooks have supported that as well.
However, the realm is pretty consistently called Limbo in stories, and so it makes the most sense to me that the realm is indeed called both Limbo and Otherplace, with the former being what most beings call it. Otherplace serves as a clarifier, much like defining Counter Earths as the High Evolutionary's Counter Earth and Franklin Richard's Counter-Earth. However, to distinguish it from Immortus' "true Limbo," I call it Limbo (Otherplace) in initial reference, and then call it Otherplace thereafter.

Vitchen had metallic pants or legs on the cover of Magik II#3 (see here). Presumably just artistic license, but perhaps some after-effect from Sym's unleashing of the transmode virus into Otherplace.

Thanks to Loki for suggesting Vitchen to represent Magik/Amanda Sefton for the event!
