History:
(
Gargoyles#1 (fb) - BTS) - As part of David Xanatos' Gen-U-Tech, Dr. Phobos worked on laboratory-controlled cellular replication.

(Gargoyles#5 (fb) - BTS) - To facilitate this project for Dr. Phobos, Demona lured the gargoyle leader Goliath and the New York Police Department officer Elisa Maza to Gen-U-Tech island to procure blood samples, from which Phobos developed a human-gargoyle hybrid.

Phobos selected Maza due to Goliath's concern for her, figuring the hybrid creation would be able to exploit this concern.

(Gargoyles#4) - While Venus was still developing in a tank, Dr. Phobos considered that soon she would be ready to enter the world and there would be no mercy for anyone who stood in his way.

(Gargoyles#5) - Dr. Phobos checked on his human-gargoyle project, considering that she would be the first warrior of an unbeatable army and that tomorrow would be her birthday.

Demona later met with Dr. Phobos, revealing she knew of his secret plan and accessing the secret lab despite his security measures. As the two reviewed the nature of the hybrid, Phobos noted that she would hatch very soon.

(Gargoyles#5 - BTS) - As the Gargoyles invaded Gen-U-Tech island, Xanatos questioned Phobos' value, and Demona attacked Xanatos, precipitating a three-way conflict.

(Gargoyles#5) - Although he had not had time to fully program his hybrid, Phobos felt that she should follow her primary directive to obey him completely.

As the fully-developed hybrid thrashed to free herself of the tank, Phobos instilled her with one last charge of thana-rays, which allowed her to burst free.

Phobos consideried his creation to be steady on her feet, graceful like a gazelle but deadly as a lion, as well as beautiful.

At his query, she spoke, asking who she was and why she was there, and he told her he would call her Venus as a testament to her beauty and that she was there solely to do his bidding.

Phobos instructed Venus that first she would use her strength and guile to kill some nuisances, Xanatos, Demona and the other Gargoyles.

(Gargoyles#6) - As Xanatos prepared to use Phobos' petrifying Medusa Weapon against Goliath, Venus flew in, smashed into Xanatos, knocking him down. Thereafter, she introduced herself as Venus to Goliath and asked if he was her mate.

Elisa appreciated that Venus looked like her, after which Xanatos explained that she was a hybrid brewed of blood samples both her and Goliath.

Considering that Xanatos wore a false mantle (his armor) and threatened those like her, Venus proclaimed him to be her enemy and tore off his helmet and shoulder pads, which were connected the Medusa Weapon. The weapon landed at the feet of Demona, who was hiding in the shadows.

As Xanatos took to the air, Venus held on, after which he told this "enfant terrible" that she only existed because of him and that she must serve him or be destroyed. Dodging an energy blast from Xanatos' gauntlet, Venus noted his mechanical means of flight mocked her, and she tore into his wings, after which he punched her away, causing her to fall to the ground.

As Goliath picked up the fallen Venus, he was impressed with her beauty, strength and vulnerability, and then Phobos confronted them, ordering Venus to attack the Gargoyles. Feeling kinship to the Gargoyles, Venus refused and instead kissed Goliath, leading the irate Phobos to threaten to destroy the island and kill them all.

Demona then confronted and threatened Phobos, leading him to hit the self-destruct switch, after which she used the Medusa Weapon to petrify him.

After the island was wracked with seismic tremors, Demona fell into a crevice. Before they departed, Goliath prepared to check to ascertain that the Medusa Weapon had been destroyed, but Venus begged him to stay with her and teach her about life and love. After explaining that none of them would have lives if they did not stop Demona, Goliath flew to investigate, instructing the others to get to their boat if he did not return in a few minutes. When Elisa rushed to aid Goliath, Venus considered her to be brave, like a warrior.

As Goliath confronted Demona, Venus flew past, intending to destroy Demona. However, Demona instead blasted Venus with the Medusa Weapon, petrifying her.

(Gargoyles#6 - BTS) - Goliath and the other Gargoyles flew away from the collapsing island with Elisa. Demona escaped as well, but Hudson blasted the Medusa Weapon as she did so, at least knocking it out of her hands to fall and be lost in the ocean.

(Gargoyles#6) - Venus' petrified form sank to the ocean floor, and the Medusa Weapon floated nearby.venus-gargoyles-stone

(Gargoyles#6 - BTS) - Elisa later wrote in her journal that Venus had affected both her and Goliath, causing her to question what their relationship was and was not and noting that she had even felt jealous of Venus. She hoped that Venus was at peace wherever she was.

Maybe the petrifaction of the Medusa Weapon was temporary. Or, perhaps the energies of the weapon floating right beside her may have reversed the effect over time...

The Gargoyles TV series features a species of nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that turn to stone during the day, focusing on a clan led by Goliath. In 994, the clan lives in a castle in Scotland. Most are betrayed and killed by humans while petrified and the remainder are magically cursed to sleep—i.e., be frozen in stone form until the castle "rises above the clouds." A thousand years later in 1994, billionaire David Xanatos purchases the gargoyles' castle and has it reconstructed atop his New York skyscraper, the Eyrie Building, thus awakening Goliath and the remainder of his clan. While trying to adjust to their new world, they are aided by a sympathetic police officer named Elisa Maza and quickly come into conflict with the plotting Xanatos. In addition to dealing with the gargoyles' attempts to adjust to modern New York City, the series also incorporated various supernatural threats to their safety and to the world at large.

Marvel produced a Gargoyles series from February-December, 1995, and then the Fantastic Four/Gargoyles crossover was released in 2025.
The Marvel Database considers that latter issue to occur on Earth-7484 (Crossover), but I don't know the series well enough to confirm that Marvel's Gargoyles, at least, couldn't have taken place on Earth-616 at the time of publication (1995), which, due to Marvel's sliding timescale, would be over 15 years before the Fantastic Four's space flight. But then there's all of the Dynamite stories...and then they appear in the modern-day continuity in the Fantastic Four/Gargoyles story, so presumably there is at least time-travel, if not reality-warping going on, and/or perhaps it is occurring on Earth-7484.
I think it makes the most sense to consider the reality starting with the cartoon series, and the Marvel series follows that. I think the Dynamite series' follow that, too, but, regardless, I am focusing on the Marvel series.
There's another crossover in progress, Gargoyles-Darkwing Duck, which clearly depicts Darkwing Duck existing in the same reality as the Gargoyles, given he drives from his home city, St. Canard, to NYC. 616 has anthrotoons running around - Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal for example - as well as humanoid ducks (Howard), so Darkwing alone might not be too problematic, but Darkwing comes with an entire city of humanoid animals, and one of his main supporting cast members, Launchpad McQuack, originates in Duck Tales, so that would bring in the entire Donald Duck cast, and by extension all of Disney's funny animal characters - Mickey, Goofy, etc. I think that's a step too far.
And for what it's worth, that crossover starts with a text box "In a world where anything can happen..." - both the dot dot dot and bold on anything are in the comic, not added by me btw. AND the lead Gargoyle and his human ally don't seem to find encountering Darkwing at all perplexing - absolutely zero surprise at a talking humanoid duck in superhero costume - suggesting they find that completely normal. Of course, both of these could still hold true for 616, but to me it does lend to this Gargoyles-Darkwing Duck crossover not taking place in 616. And given both crossovers are published by the same company, I suspect they are intended to be the same universe.
All that said, and with the caveat that I'm not that up on Gargoyles, I don't think there's anything in it that I know of that would make it unable to fit into 616.

In the cartoon X-Men Evolution, Magneto knocks a stone gargoyle off a roof for Blob to catch - the gargoyle is Brooklyn. Some of the Gargoyles creatives worked on XME, so the resemblance isn't coincidental.

There's apparently similar stone Gargoyle cameos in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon's pilot - Gargoyle's creator Greg Weisman produced that cartoon too. Weisman has also written four crossover "radio plays" between Spectacular Spider-Man - "Religious Studies 101: A Handful of Thorns", "Recruits", "The Cosmos", and "Musicology 101: Songs of the Theme" - which have been performed by a combination of original show voice actors and fans at Gargoyles conventions. The first one was videoed and can be watched on Youtube:
