    S.C.O.R.P.I.O. is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant able to match Nick Fury Jr. in pitched combat. Fury identified amongst her many moves Jeet Kune Do, Krava Maga, possibly a Centaurian move (see comments).

    She was swift and skilled enough to dodge fire from a quarter of Life-Model Decoy (LMDs) of Nick Fury Jr. while taking out all four with a single shot each with the laser pistol she carried.

    S.C.O.R.P.I.O. wears hyper-reactive op-armor that baffles laser beams, causing them to seemingly pass through her harmlessly.

    Her boots have high heels that could be packed with nano-active gel able to dissolve solid metal cakes

    She briefly possessed the Zodiac Key, which allowed her to teleport, fire powerful blasts and deflect bullets.

    She has access to deep sea equipment, presumably including propulsion in addition to oxygen supply and insulation.

(Fury III#1/3 (fb) - BTS) <Circa 1940 A.D.> - Nick Fury Sr. joined Isadore Cohen, Red Hargrove and Ronald Wolverstone-Clodd in a mission to Castle Zodiac, where Leonardo da Vinci stored occult artifacts, including the Zodiac Key. Dying in the process, Wolverstone-Clodd transported the Zodiac Key to the moon to prevent the Nazis from recovering it.

(Fury III#1/2 (fb) - BTS) <Circa 1968 A.D.> - As part of Project S.H.I.E.L.D. (see comments), Nick Fury Sr. was ambushed by and battled the Zodiac Key-wielding Scorpio (presumably Jacob Fury), who was seeking the Zodiac Door, in the Blue Area of the Moon before they were both banished back to Earth by Uatu the Watcher.


(Fury III#1/1 (fb) - BTS) - S.C.O.R.P.I.O., associated with the organization Z.O.D.I.A.C. (Zero-Order Distributed International Anarchist Coalition) plotted to infiltrate the Lock Box, a top-secret, undersea storage facility for dangerous extranormal items, to steal the Zodiac Key. Apparently expecting interference from Nick Fury Jr., S.C.O.R.P.I.O. delivered false intelligence to the security guards, allegedly from Maria Hill, that Fury was an active threat working for some other agency, possibly W.H.I.S.P.E.R., A.I.M. or another.

    However, Fury -- who had been secretly warned by his own father, Nick Fury Sr. that someone was going to break into the Lock Box -- somehow got the Lock Box's guards first and secretly replaced them all with Life Model Decoys of himself.

(Fury III#1/1) - Via unrevealed circumstances, S.C.O.R.P.I.O. accessed the Lock Box, using Fury Jr.'s entry and detainment by the guards as a distraction, communicating this with Fury via his earbud, but then he revealed that he had gotten to the guards first before he sent his Fury Life-Model Decoy (LMDs) Squad to locate the intruder via the secret access routes. Mockingly noting that she was touched that he thought highly enough of her to send a whole squad of the world's toughest spy after her, she told him that it would take more than that to sting S.C.O.R.P.I.O.,  and she described herself as the best of the best.

    As the LMDs lacked the instinct to fight like their lives depended on it, S.C.O.R.P.I.O. swiftly took out all for of them with her laser/blaster pistol. Fury himself then caught up to her and shot to kill with his S.H.I.E.L.D.-issue laser glove, which no human could dodge, but her hyper-reactive op-armor allowed her to baffle laser beams. Taunting him not to be so quick on the draw as they had all night, she tossed aside her blaster rather than fire on him, after which the two of them fought fiercely, during which Fury detected Jeet Kune Do, Krava Maga, possibly a Centaurian move; her skills made him wonder at her identity.

    As they sparred, however, S.C.O.R.P.I.O. maneuvered them toward a specific locked safe, which she then -- having delivered a stunning blow to Fury -- opened via a nano-active gel delivered via an injector in her heel that dissolved the door. Claiming the Zodiac Key within, she then teleported away before Fury could stop her. However, Fury did recover a strand of her hair.

(Fury III#1/4) - Teleporting to the Blue Area of the Moon, S.C.O.R.P.I.O. ambushed Nick Fury Sr. in his Watcher-like role as the Man on the Wall. She fired a blast from the Zodiac Key at him, which he dodged while identifying her by her code name, real name, and nickname to her friends, noting that they had been watching her for a long time.

     Stating his past association and respect for her great uncle while firing back at her with a hand blaster, he asked her if the Z.O.D.I.A.C. with which she was associated were Nazis. S.C.O.R.P.I.O. told her not to insult her thusly, noting that the Zero-Order referred to a system where there were no leaders or generals, just equal parts of the whole. Fury replied that he knew they just made up a word to fit the "Z" in the acronym.

    As he told her that there were worse things than being an anarchist, she kicked him off a ledge, placed a foot on his chest and aimed the key at him as he lay on his back. She then instructed him that she wanted (presumably the Zodiac Door) and while she could use the Zodiac Key to pull the information out of his brain, the stress could kill him, and she preferred to avoid that as he had meant a lot to her great-uncle.

scorpio-hargrove-upper-moon    However, as the two Furys had planned, Nick Fury Jr. then appeared, advising her that his current gun was not a laser. S.C.O.R.P.I.O. surmised that he had traveled to the moon with the aid of Cyclops (Scott Summers) and a Krakoa Gate and then having used lightbender and sonic cloak technology to approach her undetected. She told Nick Jr. that he was cute for an agent of the status quo but that he was such a nepo baby (meaning he was successful because of his father). Replying that he was a cute nepo baby, Fury Jr. told Hargrove to drop the Zodiac Key as it was over. S.C.O.R.P.I.O. argued that the Zodiac Key could deflect bullets, and Nick advised her that it could do that if she could bring it to bear before he pulled his trigger, and he asked her if she was ready to stake her life on that.

    Replying that she had staked her life twice before breakfast, S.C.O.R.P.I.O. said to let it ride as she dove backward, but Nick Jr. then activated his weapon. A S.H.I.E.L.D. Multi-Pistol firing six kinds of non-ballistic shots, the sonic slug (repurposed from Ulysses Klaw) agonized her ears and loosened her grip; the tractor round used artificial telekinesis to grab the Zodiac Key. Fury Jr. did not need to fire any further rounds, but the cross S.C.O.R.P.I.O. replied, "Nice toy. Maybe I'll show you mine sometime. But for now -- well, you might have one key...but there are others. Harder to find, but I'm motivated now. I'll see you on the chessboard, Nicky."

    And then she activated her translocation rig, teleporting away, and Nick Jr. replied, "It's a date."

(Fury III#1/4 - BTS) - Fury Jr. sarcastically told his dad, "Thanks for the help..." And Fury Sr. replied, "What, you want yer dad hornin' in on your action? You get the key...let her run...you two got 'team-up' written all over you."

    Nick Jr. then confirmed that it had been his dad that had been the one that warned him out about the Lock Box break-in, noting him to have manipulated him to bring the Zodiac Key right to his door one way or another. Nick Sr. then related that there were twelve Zodiac Vaults, hidden all of the world, and there were at least more than one Zodiac Key. Fury Sr. additionally noted that the Watcher's Door of Tomorrow could show a world where Z.O.D.I.A.C. "won the whole game," and that S.C.O.R.P.I.O. had likely been seeking to learn what they had done to achieve that. At Nick Sr.'s request, Nick Jr. gave him the Zodiac Key, after which -- while stepping into the Door of Tomorrow -- he stated his plan to go somewhere where he could do some good and leave the espionage to his son.

scorpio-hargrove-nfaosh1    "Who is Scorpio?" was the title of the Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.#1 (June, 1968), and it was also the title of this story, which marked the 60th Anniversary of the first appearance of Nick Fury. This the mega-cool cover by the legendary Jim Steranko.
    This story was a very cool tribute to both Nick Fury's in their various incarnations.
    The part about Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. being active in 1968 might seem to be problematic, because S.H.I.E.L.D. was formed after the Fantastic Four's spaceflight, which was the start of the modern age, which is approximately 15 years before the current year, which as I write this would be 2010, and it slips forward a year with each year's passage of time in the real world. However, we fortunately have the revelation/ret-con of the existence of its precursor for decades, Project Shield, and its even Jason Sitwell in that flashback, rather than Jasper Sitwell, who was tied to the S.H.I.E.L.D. in the modern age.
    Al Ewing is very knowledgeable about continuity, and I think he left enough wiggle-room to make it work without making an obvious issue out of it.

    I think generally each encounter should make it clear which Fury is engaging S.C.O.R.P.I.O. Where both are involved, I used Sr. and Jr. to clarify, even though they don't both have the exact same name.

    I'm not sure what the Centaurian move that Nick Fury Jr. thought she was using was supposed to be. Presumably these Centaurians, but I think only control of the yaka arrows via whistles is the only particular physical skill known to them.
