Powers/Abilities: Dr. Russell was experienced with advanced technology, and he had the equipment as well as the willingness to contain and vivisect a Klyntar/symbiote.

    Dr. Russell also had the technology and the staff to utilize the fragmented symbiote, in conjunction with a containment bracelet, to facilitate treatment for a variety of medical conditions.

    He was interested in developing medical cures, however, he appeared to be motivated by the goal (and likely the profit) and was less concerned about who might be harmed along the way to achieving success.

    He carried some sort of energy pistol capable of mortally wounding a person with a close range blast, and he was more than willing to shoot a high school girl -- even one of his former test subjects -- in the back to prevent interference with his goals.

History:
(Venom 2099#1 - BTS) - Dr. Russell and his agents used a machine to cut into tiny pieces the Venom symbiote, which pleaded for help to no avail (although whether its voice could be heard by those cutting it apart is uncertain).

    Those cutting the symbiote apart considered the acid capabailities, cellular bonding, how far they could fragment it, unparalleled medical applications and cures for cases of skullfire.


(Venom 2099#1 (fb) - BTS) - When they considered the divided symbiote segments to be at the desired level, Russell approved Alea (who had suffered a disfiguring burn over her entire left arm), the daughter of Alchemax employee Theo Bell, to be the test subject for his planned All-Cure, although it was still called Venom in the experimental phase.

 (Venom 2099#1) - As Theo and Alea prepared for her treatment, Dr. Russell came in, telling Theo that his working for Alchemax made him part of the Alchemax family and that they always "treated their family right."

    Dr. Russell then informed Theo that they were ready for the Venom transfusion, and Theo told Alea he had to leave because he didn't have clearance to stay for the treatment.

    Alea told Theo the "Venom" name was creepy, but he assured her that was just for the experimental phase, but that if things proceeded as planned, their Alchemax All-Cure would change the face of modern medicine. He reminded Alea that this all started with her, and then he told her it was time to make her better.

    As the infusion was administered, Russell first advised her that a potential side effect of the treatment was unusually vivid dreams, and she recalled the vehicular accident that scarred her arm and slew her mother, but she also saw images on Venom (see comments) and Knull; Russell assured her that they were only dreams and couldn't hurt her.

(Venom 2099#1 - BTS) - Alea recovered to find her father by her side and weeping, as her arm appeared to be completely healed. She wore a bracelet on her arm to contain and monitor the symbiote/treatment.

    However, when Alea returned to school, a bully named Bether and her friend harassed her, damaging and stealing the bracelet.

russelldr-2099-alchemax-armless    Thereafter, the Venom symbiote began sharing thoughts of killing and manifesting its black coating over her arm.

    The symbiote subsequently told Alea that it was a fragment of a being from space and that they were both being used in a trap.

     The symbiote convinced Alea to go to Alchemax and free the rest of it, which she incorrectly concluded would get her back to a normal life.

    When Alea was confronted by Alchemax security, the symbiote slew them.

    Despite her objections to this, Alea continued into the laboratory and found the controls to neutralize the energy preventing the other symbiote fragments from escaping.

 (Venom 2099#1) - Presumably alerted by the invasion of the lab, Dr. Russell investigated personally, found Alea, and used some sort of energy blaster to shoot her in the back and drop her.

    He expressed his frustration about a child breaching his lab, but he considered that there was no real damage done and consoled himself you couldn't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

    As he considered that there were so many potential subjects waiting to be healed, however, the other symbiote fragments shattered their containment centers.

    Despite Dr. Russell shouting, "No!", the symbiote fragments all reunited as they bonded with Alea, and as the new Venom, they confronted Dr. Russell, noting that they would like a word with him. As he held his blaster in his left arm, Venom severed that arm, telling him that he would never hurt them again...either of them.

    Grasping his arm in agony, Russell told Venom, "You can't," but Venom assured him that they could. Dr. Russell tried to plead with Alea, but Venom told him that she was healing rather than dying from his blast, and for that she owed the symbiote dinner...unless Russell deleted all data about Venom from Alchemax's records.

    The terrified Russell deleted everything on Venom from the cy-cloud, the laser drive, etc., and then informed Venom that every redundancy was gone, and that they didn't exist to Alchemax anymore.

    Venom then advised Russell that he was no longer of use to them, and despite Russell arguing about what Venom had said, Venom asked him if he knew what it was like to be sliced apart repeatedly into the tiniest bits and then told him that they would show him...and Venom slashed/tore/whatever Russell to pieces.
 
 
russelldr-2099-alchemax-slaughtered (Venom 2099#1 - BTS) - Upon reviving, Alea told the Venom symbiote that while she acknowledged that Dr. Russell was a monster and she felt how much he had hurt them, she didn't want to be a monster and convinced the symbiote that they could protect each other as well as other people.

    Always frustrating when a character doesn't get a full name; it makes him or her so much more difficult to reference and makes him or her so much less memorable. At least he got a surname (last name).

    The Venom symbiote that was used by Alchemax appeared to be a future counterpart of the symbiote brought to Earth by Spider-Man that bonded with him before being expelled and then bonding with Eddie Brock, etc., as Venom.

    This profile was completed 01/03/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
