Powers/Abilities: Nemesus is a powerful and
arrogant sorcerer. He appears to be virtually indestructible and can
cast destructive blasts without the need for incantations. He can cast
invisibility spells but needs machinery to expand their range. He can
hover and move in the air at average human running speed. He can
apparently torture targeted individual sleeping minds with nightmares
(although this may have been via a link with Cyttorak's power). Nemesus
lusts for more power but is long-lived and sufficiently patient to wait
for his plans to come to fruition. He commands an army of
brutal Darkling minions.

History:
(J2#12 (fb) - BTS) - On Earth-928, at some point, Dr.
Strange fought the malignant mystic being Nemesus, a member of the
Overlords Eight, which had tried to conquer Earth several times
but failed.
(J2#12 (fb)) - The heroic X-Men battled the dire Overlords Eight, but Juggernaut (Cain Marko) stayed back to hold off the Overlords' Darkling army so that his fellow X-Men could escape.The Overlord Nemesus kept Juggernaut imprisoned for many years with aid from ally Cyttorak.
(J2#12 (fb) - BTS) - Nemesus attempted to steal
Juggernaut's power for himself, but miscalculated, and that power
instead reached and empowered Juggernaut's son Zane Marko, who became
the heroic adventurer J2. Nemesus still hoped to acquire the power at
some point.
(J2#4/1) - J2 sought help from the mystic Doc Magus about nightmares he was having about his father. Their bodies unconscious, Doc Magus sent them to the astral plane to investigate where they were confronted by Nemesus and a small army of his Darkling minions. The villain taunted them both about knowing their fathers and distracted J2 with a violent Darkling disguised as Juggernaut. Doc Magus tried to pry information from his foe as the two battled, but Nemesus only revealed that Doc Magus had inadvertently revealed a gateway to their plane of reality for invasion. However, J2 and Doc Magus' defense proved too powerful and Nemesus teleported away.
(J2#12 (fb) - BTS) - Keen for revenge, Nemesus laid a
trap to lure Doc Magus into his pocket dimension.
(J2#12) - Doc Magus found J2's father at the Crossroads of Infinity, but his locator spells caught the attention of Dr. Strange, who organized allies for the potential peril ahead. Soon after, Doc Magus and J2 impatiently portaled into the pocket dimension together and freed Cain Marko, but Nemesus appeared with many Darkling minions and blasted their gateway escape shut. However, anticipating Doc Magus being impetuous, Dr. Strange appeared via his own portal with his allies the Sub-Mariner and the Hulk, and the trio pounded at Nemesus. The villain moved away and blasted Cain Marko, so J2 fiercely defended his father and punched the villain far away into the void. Near overwhelmed by Darklings, the heroes escaped back home.
(Spider-Girl I#71 (fb) - BTS) - Nemesus devised
another scheme to conquer Earth, this time using a special machine to
project an invisibility spell to hide Darklings from human perception..
(Spider-Girl I#71) - J2 and Spider-Girl were able to
sense the Darklings and repel them. Soon after, Spider-Girl found the
portal to Nemesus, and J2, Spider-Girl and Doc Magus (involved because
of described "demons") went through where they confronted Nemesus. J2
hurled Spider-Girl at the machine, which smashed and made their foes
visible. The heroic trio fought Nemesus and his Darklings until Doc
Magus cast an enduring spell that turned Nemesus' magicks upon himself
and his Darkling army. The trio escaped back to Earth and Doc Magus
collapsed the rift portal in on itself.

Nemesus' (and the Darklings') skin inexplicably turned green in the Spider-Girl issue (in J2, Nemesus was golden while the Darklings were red). Maybe something happened to his dimension or he'd moved to a different area (altho' nothing else changed)? Maybe Nemesus' initial golden face was a skintight flexible mask to match his armor highlights? Or perhaps there was a behind-the-scenes brief but weak gamma pulse that left their skin changed? Maybe mold?
The coloring and design of his initial semi-armored suit reminds me a little of Adam Warlock from the early 1990s.
This profile was completed on 05/22/2026 but its publication was delayed, as it was intended for the Appendix's 25th anniversary celebratory event.
