History:
(Solution#8 (fb)) - Kwan Yun was boss of bosses of
the multinational criminal organization known as
Dragon Fang.
(Solution#6 (fb) - BTS)
<Three years before the main flashback> - Seeking to take over
the corporation Hypersonic, Dragon Fang arranged the death of the wife
of CEO Terrance Cho in a car crash.
(Solution#6 (fb) - BTS) - The
Dragon Fang arranged the death of Terrance Cho, and when his daughter,
Lela, inherited his stock options as majority shareholder. However,
Dragon Fang had gained influence over the rest of the shareholders, and
they refused to vote her in as CEO. Although Lela went to Nu-Ware and
received wetware (nanotechnology) implants, Dragon Fang enforcers Black
Tiger and Bloodshed forced her to surrender her shares of Hypersonic to
Dragon Fang. When they tried to force her into a life of pornography
and prostitution, Lela fought her way free and escaped.
(Solution#7 (fb) - BTS) -
Dragon Fang sent the mercenary Casino to assassinate Lela, and Casino
tracked her to a club in New York where she was saved by the mercenary
Troy Wilde (brought in by Lela's friend Pete Bazzini). When Casino blew
up Pete's club, Lela and Troy escaped, and Troy subsequently led Lela
to London's Dark Shoppe. There they met with the Aerwan mystic Aera,
but magically immobilized Casino when she attacked them there, but not
before she had blinded Troy.
(Solution#8 (fb) - BTS) -
Aera removed Casino's memory of her recent encounters; however, she had
already reported Lela's London location to Dragon Fang.
(Solution#8 (fb)) - Kwan
Yun met with the overlords of the Dragon Fang on the island of Taiwan
for their monthly enclave. After being informed of Casino's failure to
report in after revealing Lela Cho's location, Kwan Yun ordered their
people in London to be alerted, as he wanted Lela dead.
(Solution#8 (fb) - BTS) -
Along with the Darkurian known as Vurk, Lela, Aera and Troy joined
together for a variety of goals. Troy had surgery from Nu-Ware to
replace his eyes and give him additional abilities, and the group
eventually became known as the Solution: Dropkick
(Troy), Outrage (Vurk), Shadowmage (Aera) and Tech (Lela). Aera
magically deflected attempts to track them down (including Casino's
semi-mystic means).
(Solution#8 (fb)) - Kwan Yun's
rage mounted with every failure to locate Lela and/or his associates.
(Solution#8 (fb) - BTS) - The
Solution began systematically hitting Dragon Fang operations.
(Solution#8 - BTS) - Dragon
Fang attempted to assassinate Lela as she visited her father's grave,
but the rest of the Solution were present and thwarted the attempt.
(Solution#14) - Kwan Yun
called a meeting of his top assassins -- Bloodshed, Black Tiger and
Incoming -- telling them that they needed to do end the Solution's
interference permanently, as they had cost them millions of dollars in
lost revenue and crippled some of their most important operations. He
advised Incoming that he would be given the ultra enhancements that he
had been wanting (enhanced sight, reflexes, coordination and speed) and
that the group would be reunited as a team to hunt down and kill the
members of the Solution, excepting Lela Cho, whom he wanted
alive. As they all had wished a second chance at the Solution
after previous defeats, they readily agreed, although they were
appalled when he advised them that they would be working under a woman:
Casino.
(Solution#15 - BTS) - The
trio under Casino's direction was identified as Dragonfire. Casino set
a trap to draw in the Solution, and, after they had split up to break
into one of Dragon Fang's bases in Taiwan, Incoming shot Shadowmage,
which disrupted her invisibility spell. Casino incapacitated Tech with
an anesthetic gas.
(Solution#16 - BTS) -
Casino subsequently injected Tech with a psychoactive to prevent her
from using her technomancy powers even after she regained consciousness.
(Solution#16 - BTS) -
Casino contacted Kwan Yun with an update on her team's progress. After
Dropkick and Bloodshed took each other out and Outrage was blown apart
by missiles, she contacted Yun again, telling him that the Solution had
been defeated and that Lela was in the bag and awaiting his eager
hands.
(Solution#17) - Kwan Yun
and the other Lords of the Dragon Fang arrived at the base in which the
Solution had been apparently defeated at 6 pm. Although there was a
scene of carnage, he was pleased as one of the men reported how they
were cleaning up the remnants of Outrage.
(Solution#17 - BTS) - The
revived Dropkick took out a number of Dragon Fang agents. Having used a
healing spell, Shadowmage incapacitated Incoming with another spell.
(Solution#17) - While
Dropkick
engaged Casino, Lela's unconscious mind locked doors trapping
Yun in his men in a room with the re-formed Outrage, who was
temporarily savage and virtually mindless. As he picked Yun up with a
hand, Shadowmage had to mystically stop Outrage from slaying Yun; upon
recovering, Outrage regained his wits.
While Casino fled, Outrage and Shadowmage brought Yun to Lela, who
slapped him for having killed her father and mother. Although Yun told
her that it was all business and for profit, Lela advised him that the
Solution had crippled Dragon Fang, and she demanded that he sign
Hypersonic back over to her and give her 20 million
dollars for damages and expanses.
Yun initially was defiant, noting how Dragon Fang
encompassed the world and would crush them in the future. However, when
Outrage threatened him and Lela noted how ineffective the Dragon Fang
had been against them and warned that she would not stop until the
Dragon Fang had been defeated, Yun reluctantly agreed.
Comments: Created by James D. Hudnall and John Statema.
The organization Dragon Fang also appears in the
Solution#1, 7, and 8. I read 6-8 for this profile, but not #1. AFAIK,
Kwan Yun first appeared in Solution#8. Eventually, Dragon Fang will get
its own profile, and if I missed anything, we will add it in.
His name is very similar to the Chinese goddess of
mercy, Kwan-Yin (or Guan-Yin; see clarifications). I have no idea if
that was intentional or not. I had communicated with James Hudnall when
I wrote the Hardcase profile, but he has unfortunately passed away
since then.
For some reason, Yun had brown hair (and even
sometimes light brown hair) in the Solution#17, as opposed to black,
graying hair in previous appearances.
This profile was
completed 09/07/2026, but
its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th
anniversary 's celebratory event to represent Casino's stories and
characters.
