History:
(Wrath#2 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Esquida was employed by covert organization Aladdin to generate an augmented agent to tackle the rise of super-powered people (ultras). Esquida worked on Project W (Wrath), which involved a low-level ultra with a powerful battle suit.
(Wrath#6 (fb) - BTS) - Esquida worked closely with Wrath and helped train him on-site at an Aladdin base.
(Wrath#2 (fb) - BTS) - Esquida became involved with
an extension of this program called Project Patriot. This new venture
augmented a human subject with powers so that a battle suit was not
needed. Esquida favored this Project over the Wrath program and began
subtly undermining Project W.
(Wrath#1) - Dr. Esquida quietly watched as Wrath
successfully
completed another intensive training session, judging his progress.
Esquida covertly contacted
the violent mercenaries the Radicals to subvert Wrath's profile and
capabilities.
(Wrath#2) - Esquida traveled to Arlington to confront
Colonel Carpenter about stopping Project W in favor of advancing
Project Patriot. Carpenter rebuffed Esquida, who then secretly went to
Aladdin super-computer GENIE and used his security clearance to
advance his agenda. However, Carpenter later found out about Esquida's
unauthorized order to terminate Project W, but decided on patience and
monitoring events.
(Wrath#3) - Esquida supervised an assessment of Project W
before
various scientists and administrative staff, which initially focused on
Wrath's failures, notably against Mantra, Prototype and Hellion.
Esquida duplicitously added Wrath's former connection to the Radicals
to the list, but Carpenter stepped in, emphasizing the need for Aladdin
to have an agent to contain ultras, and again firmly
overruled Esquida's attempt to cancel Project W. Esquida stammered
acquiescence. Later, Esquida spoke to Wrath privately and sent him to
New York to confront his former (but since disgraced) teammates the
Radicals. After Wrath's success, Aladdin agents revealed Esquida had
set him up.
(Wrath#4) - Back at base, Wrath wanted to speak to
Esquida, but Carpenter fobbed him off as he was already targeting
Esquida himself. Meanwhile, Esquida realized he was in serious trouble.
Panicked at a public pay phone, he called his wife to pack and
be ready to leave, but he was secretly shadowed by two Aladdin agents,
who returned him to base. There, Carpenter, fully aware of Esquida's
transgressions, chastised Esquida for his insubordination, then feigned
a compliment for his risk-taking and ordered him back to work,
much to Esquida's surprise. Elsewhere, Wrath's bio-test results
startled Aladdin's Dr. Dalmas, who went to contact Esquida.
(Wrath#5) - Dr. Dalmas reached Esquida on his car phone, but answering it triggered a secret explosive device (planted on Carpenter's orders) that killed him.
(Wrath#6) - Feeling threatened by Wrath investigating
Esquida's death, Carpenter looked further into Project Patriot for
protection.
