History:

(Barbie I#11/1 (fb) - BTS) - Lady Creepington owned the impressive Creepington Castle. However, the renown Creepington fortune had been spent (on unrevealed matters) and so she had to let her servant staff go. Concerned she would lose her castle mansion, she hatched a plan to spread rumors that the castle was haunted. She invited Barbie and Skipper to stay the night, hoping they would be convinced of ghosts and tell their friends to encourage more visits and make it a tourist destination.

(Barbie I#11/1) - Creepington welcomed Barbie and Skipper inside and lied that the servants had left because the castle was haunted by a glowing ghost. Barbie smiled away that rumor and promised to uncover the mystery. Later that night as Barbie and Skipper slept, Creepington shrieked and claimed she'd seen the glowing ghost. The young duo rushed to investigate. Hidden, Creepington pushed over armor near Skipper to scare the girl, then dashed off in bodywear covered in fluorescent paint to appear like a ghost. Barbie soon found Creepington as she had not hidden well enough behind a curtain. Revealed, Creepington explained her dire circumstances and plotting.

(Barbie I#11/1 (fb) - BTS) - Barbie helped Creepington by coming up with a plan to turn the castle into a theme park with ride attractions.

(Barbie I#11/1) - At the entrance to her new and flourishing theme park, Creepington thanked Barbie and Skipper (evidently on a return trip).

Comments: Created by Trina Robbins & Mary Wilshire.

Ah, the old clothes-covered-in-fluorescent/phosphorescent-paint-to-appear-like-a-ghost trick! Used by Phantom Rider of the Old West, among others.

This story seems likely set in the UK with the mini castle-like manor (see the residence at right) with its mish-mash of architectural designs plus Creepington's aristocratic title of Lady. But neither is proof that it's set outside of the USA. That Lady Creepington hoped Barbie would encourage her friends to visit suggests it's an American locale, given Barbie's based in the USA.

This story was immediately followed by another ghost story (this time with real but timid ghost), so while I can't find a release date, it appears this was a Halloween issue.
