History:(A-Force II#5 (fb) - BTS / Kelly Sloane tumblr post) - Dia Sloane is a mutant who originated on Earth-11131, a realm apparently lacking in love and compassion. At some point, Dia adopted the identity of the Countess. At some point (whether before or after Dia became the Countess is unrevealed), the Multiverse collapsed, and a fragment of Earth-11131 became part of the Battleworld assembled from fragments of multiple alternate reality Earths by Dr. Doom, who became Emperor Doom of Battleworld. The Earth-11131 domain became known as Killville (if it wasn't already known as that. (A-Force II#5 (fb) - BTS) - The Countess fought Thor (Alison
Blaire), one
of many Thors
serving Lord Emperor Doom on Battleworld. Both women were caught
up in
the Countess' reality-bending wake as they fought, falling through
space,
dimensions, etc. (A-Force II#7 (fb) - BTS) - During the seeming eternity that they
fell through various realms, they encountered Terrigen mist, and
Thor
developed an advanced case of M-Pox. (Secret Wars III#9 - BTS) - Battleworld was destroyed, although
remnants survived. (A-Force II#5) - A-Force (Captain Marvel, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru, She-Hulk, Singularity) arrived to confront the dragon, and as they prepared a battle plan, they appreciated that there was a Thor-like being fighting it. After Thor-Alison was knocked away by the dragon and crashed at the heroes' feet, she advised them not to touch the dragon, as the Countess was hers alone to vanquish. However, when the dragon approached, further discussion was delayed as Thor and She-Hulk joined forces against the massive dragon, earning both womens' mutual respect. As the Countess-dragon approached the seaside village, Nico and Singularity got the civilians out of harm's way while She-Hulk, Thor, and the rest of her team engaged the dragon. When the dragon breathed fire at them, Nico used a magic spell to turn the flames into flowers. After She-Hulk, Thor, Captain Marvel and Medusa flattened the dragon, the Countess vanished. (A-Force II#5 (fb) - BTS) - Thor subsequently explained that the dragon was actually the Countess, and she postulated that she had merely regrouped or retreated to recover her strength and attack them when they least expected it. Medusa asked if the Countess was a shape-shifter, and Thor explained that she rather bent the very fabric of reality. (A-Force II#5 - BTS) - Returning in her humanoid form, the Countess took mental control of Nico, who used a "Sleeping Beauty" spell to render Thor and the rest of A-Force unconscious. (A-Force II#6 (fb) - BTS) - The Countess took mental control of many of the local townspeople. Another spell from Nico removed the other heroes' powers, and they were imprisoned in a local jail cell. Singularity was nowhere to be seen. (A-Force II#6) - Nico confronted the imprisoned heroes and revealed that she was under the Countess' control. Nico advised the others that the Countess was her goddess, and that the others would soon understand the peace in bathing in her strength and beauty, with her voice the only sound. (A-Force II#6) - After She-Hulk tried to push the Countess to overextend her powers by taunting her as a coward afraid to show her face, the Countess appeared, replying that she was not afraid to show her face, as it was glory and magnificence, which the townspeople around her echoed. Captain Marvel asked the Countess what she wanted, and she replied, "Everything," explaining that she wanted to rule all she could see and have her own people who would bow down and love her. When She-Hulk asked Nico to say a word to give them their powers back, the Countess told Nico to give her two words, and Nico used a "Hulk Smash" spell to send She-Hulk into a gamma rage, which the others manipulated to result in the shattering of their jail cell. After the Countess lamented She-Hulk's destruction of a building for which she had big plans, Nico reminded her that she was the one who set her loose on the town; the Countess replied that she had been upset and may not have thought it through, but then told Nico not to question her. Repeated uses of Nico's magic (combined with Nico's limited ability to resist the Countess' influence) caused her older spells to break down, including the power-neutralizing and "Unworthy" spells. The Countess subsequently forced Nico -- despite her pleas and efforts to the contrary -- to use a "Gangsters' Shoes" spell to pull Thor and the other heroes off a pier and to the bottom of the harbor. |
(A-Force II#7 - BTS) - Nico
marshaled her will to voice a
"Breathe" spell to keep the heroes alive until the spell holding them
underwater wore off. (A-Force II#7) - As part of She-Hulk's plan, Thor subsequently issued a challenge to the Countess, cursing her as a coward if she failed to confront her. Suspicious that Nico's resistance had caused the failure of the spell despite Nico's claims of over-extending and exhausting herself, the Countess commanded her to stay there and recover before she returned to her immense dragon form. As Thor, She-Hulk and others fought her, Dazzler created an illusion of Nico floating in the air nearby, leading the Countess to return to her human form to try to command Nico, at which point Singularity and Medusa captured the real Nico and brought her out of the range of the Countess' influence. As the heroes subsequently confronted the Countess, she blasted back Thor, who was overcome by her M-Pox and unable to rise. Dazzler-616 then took up Light Bringer, gaining the power of Thor, and smashed the Countess to the ground. Via a "Power of Love" spell, Nico taught the Countess about love (if not caused her to experience it). Overwhelmed, the Countess asked why no one had told about this before, and She-Hulk suggested that it was because she was "a nightmare person, always trying to kill everyone and take over, violating people's minds, remaking realities and in your image and crap." The tearful Countess told her that she didn't understand, and She-Hulk told her that now she did and that she should use the information wisely, "or else." The Countess then turned to Nico, presumably to apologize, but Nico instead punched her out, commenting that sometimes a little anger was good too. Lying on the ground, the Countess then abruptly vanished, presumably teleporting away. (A-Force II#7 - BTS) - Thor succumbed to M-Pox, vanishing in a flash of light and a thunderclap. |
Kelly Thompson revealed on tumblr
that the Countess was the alternate reality counterpart of Dia Sloane from
Jessica Jones - Marvel Digital Original#1 (2018).
Since Dia is a mutant, I would have to assume that the
Countess was likely a mutant as well, until proven otherwise...
