History: (Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD I#3 (fb))- During World War 2, Miles Von Croff discovered the secret of the Loch Ness-- that the Loch contained underwater entrances and channels leading to the ocean. When the war ended, he made an alliance with Sir Gavin Ravenlock, who housed Von Croff's U-Boat in the basement of the so-called "Tower of Terror" on his property where one of the underwater passages led. Von Croff became a pirate, raiding vessels while Ravenlock masqueraded as a ghost to keep people away from the tower. He eventually adopted the persona of Mycroft, a psychic detective who investigated paranormal phenomena alongside Countess Caution, and his ward Rachel.

(Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD I#3)- When Nick Fury came to investigate the death of his friend Ken Astor on the moors, Mycroft held a seance at the castle to contact the "ghost." Ravenlock appeared, and tried to kill Rachel, but Fury drove him away. Mycroft then tracked down Ravenlock on the moors and killed him, to throw off suspicions. When Fury and Rachel discovered his U-Boat base beneath the Tower of Terror, Mycroft attacked Rachel. Fury fought him off, and he ran for the iron maiden which concealed the entrance to the u-boat pen. However, the "Hell-Hound" he and Ravenlock had fashioned struck the iron maiden's door shut before he could open the rear, and he was killed instantly. The tower was subsequently destroyed by Nick Fury.

Comments: Created by Jim Steranko and Dan Adkins.

Fury hypothesized that the Loch Ness Monster was actually Von Croff's U-Boat, spotted from a distance. We know better, right?

Rachel was the daughter of Sir Gavin Ravenlock's son, but was raised as Mycroft's ward, unaware of her true parentage. Although blind, Rachel possessed psychic abilities which allowed her to sense her surroundings and (seemingly) communicate with the dead. Mycroft came to fear her psychic powers, afraid that she would become aware of his true nature, and so he sent the "Ghost of Ravenlock" and the Hell-Hound after her, although Fury saved her from both. After learning that Allistair Rampson was her uncle, she went to live at Castle Ravenlock. -Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD I#3

Countess Caution was Mycroft's associate in his guise as a psychic detective. Caution appeared to be genuine in her belief in the supernatural, and was unaware of Mycroft's true nature. Following Mycroft's death, she went on a date with Nick Fury. -Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD I#3
