History:
(Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#2 (fb) - BTS) - At some point Brad
Carter received an Oscar for his role in Tomorrow I'll cry!.
Over the years he played roles in other movies like the Forbidden
Jungle. He had an on-again and off-again relationship with actress
Tiffany, who acted alongside him in several movies.
Brad Carter and Tiffany were going to star in the Return of Kong movie directed by P.D.Q. Werner, who took them and his crew to Valhalla Island to film the movie. Dr. Noah Black, who ran evolutionary experiments on the island, generously offered the intruders his hospitality.
(Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#2) - They were nearly finished filming on the island. P.D.Q. asked Brad and Tiffany to just film the scene without any more outtakes and started rolling the camera, but Brad silently mocked Tiffany's bad delivery and arrogantly told her that he would show her his Oscar-worthy acting. Tiffany got annoyed by him talking about his Oscar again and P.D.Q. had to cut filming and talk to Tiffany, whom he promised to film some Kong footage before filming another scene with her and Brad.
They were still filming when a carnivorous dinosaur entered the set hunting S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury, who got stuck in quicksand. Smoke grenades were used to distract the carnivorous dinosaur while Brad Carter jumped to the rescue and used a vine like in his movie Forbidden Jungle to swing over the quicksand pit and pull Nick Fury from it. Fury thanked Brad and explained the threat posed by Centurius and asked P.D.Q.'s crew to cause a diversion for him or else they would all die. P.D.Q. sent his robot King Kong against the dinosaur while the rest of the crew helped attack Centurius' volcanic base and his Arms-Men in other ways. Brad Carter tossed large rocks. Even though he had not planned to kill the film crew originally, Centurius got annoyed and ordered one of his Arms-Men to bring him his land mine activator, but the Arms-Man was just Nick Fury in disguise. Fury and Jimmy Woo fought Centurius and the Arms-Men inside the volcanic base until Centurius seemingly died in his own body changing machine. Carter and the rest of the film crew barely escaped the island before Centurius' arc crashed on the volcano base and caused a massive explosion. Aboard their ship Carter once again confessed his love to Tiffany.
(Rampaging Hulk I#3/text (fb)) - Return of Kong never released because P.D.Q. couldn't afford the legal fees to get out of litigation with the copyright owners. Brad had a short fling with reporter Samantha Eden in Marseille while visiting with P.D.Q. and Tiffany. Not long after ending things with Sam, Brad got finally married to Tiffany.
(Marvel Presents#1/2) - Carter was working with P.D.Q. once again on Gagoom, the thing from beyond time. He knew that P.D.Q. had gotten some great footage of a monster chased by the coast guard, but P.D.Q. was just sad that the monster had damaged the power generators they were using for their lightning effects. Bard was glad that there was now no chance for him to get electrocuted by the it and wondered why he was still working for P.D.Q. Werner, the King of Monster Mashes. P.D.Q. reminded Brad that nobody else was hiring him anymore. They listened in on a report on the radio on another monster attack connected to the mysterious Ulysses Bloodstone and Brad immediately jumped into a car to head to where the monster was attacking because using footage of a real monster was better than filming the fake Gagoom.
Brad drove P.D.Q. to the scene of the monster attack and they witnessed Bloodstone having trouble with the monster. P.D.Q. asked Brad to get near so they could film him with the monster, but Brad just wanted to help Bloodstone and asked the crew to set up sound amplifiers to distract the monster. The loud noise temporarily broke the mind link between the Possessor and Bloodstone, which gave Brad the chance to pull Bloodstone to safety. The Possessor retaliated by destroying the amplifiers and despite Brad urging Bloodstone to get to safety, Bloodstone jumped back into action against the Possessor to protect the people that had saved him. The Possessor seemingly killed Bloodstone in front of Brad Carter.
(Marvel Presents#2) - The Possessor psychically connected to the dying Bloodstone once again and telepathically explained to Brad Carter that it needed to have more information on the gem embedded in Ulysses Bloodstone's chest before taking its power. Brad got inadvertently trapped inside the energy field, which kept him linked to the Possessor and Ulysses Bloodstone and forced him to empathically live through Bloodstone's past as well. Brad tried to break free the whole time and eventually managed to pick up Bloodstone's shotgun and fire it a few times until the gun's blow-back disrupted the energy field trapping him. Brad fell to the ground with an injured right arm and was helped to get away by the police while Ulysses Bloodstone stayed connected to the Possessor. Brad and the others soon witnessed Bloodstone defeat the Possessor. Brad Carter was impressed and thanked Ulysses Bloodstone for saving him. Ulysses felt that Brad was somehow tied to his near future. P.D.Q. offered Ulysses to star alongside Brad in his new movie and Ulysses agreed to it so that he could stay close to Brad Carter until he could determine what linked them.
(Rampaging Hulk I#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - Ulysses' involvement with the movies was very brief.
(Rampaging Hulk I#1/2 (fb) - BTS) - Ulysses Bloodstone hired Brad Carter to become his aide.
(Rampaging Hulk I#1/2) - Brad was already aboard an ocean liner in Rio de Janeiro waiting for his employer when the ship took off. He tried to tell one of the crewman that one passenger was still missing, but it didn't matter too much because Ulysses just jumped aboard with shotgun in hand. He was confronted by crewmen at gunpoint and Brad rushed in to tell them that the man had paid for this voyage and presented them with Ulysses' passport that also included a special permit to carry his weapon. Ulysses and Brad were watched by three mysterious men, which was noticed by photo-journalist Samantha Eden, who had been following Ulysses Bloodstone as well.
That night the three men broke into Brad Carter's quarter and knocked him out with a chop to the neck. They then went after Ulysses Bloodstone, who soundly defeated them. Meanwhile Samantha Eden took care of Brad Carter and gave him a very necessary neck massage. Ulysses, surprised by her presence, was introduced to her by Brad. She then revealed that it was no coincidence that she was there and that she had been following Bloodstone because he was news.
(Rampaging Hulk I#1/3) - The monster Goram attacked the ocean liner and while Bloodstone fought it underwater, Brad and Sam watched from the failing and grew concerned for him. Brad tossed a rope to Bloodstone when he resurfaced. Bloodstone told Brad and Sam that Goram won't return because the monster had gotten the case with the gem it was after. Brad was just glad that it was gone and assured Bloodstone that despite the ship's damaged that it would get them back ashore after the crew made temporary repairs. Brad then told Sam that it would be best to part ways again, but Bloodstone disagreed and offered her to come to Bloodstone Island with them because she could possibly be of help in their upcoming mission.
(Rampaging Hulk I#2/2) - After arriving at New York harbor, Bloodstone took Brad and Sam with his personal sub-skimmer to Bloodstone Island, which was under attack by Goram. They watched Bloodstone fight the monster and trap it with the island's defensive systems. Sam wondered if the whole situation was a publicity stunt pulled by Brad's former employer P.D.Q., but Brad assured her that it was not.
(Rampaging Hulk I#2/3) - Conspiracy agent Killer Shrike freed Goram, who escaped into the sea. Brad followed Goram with the sub-skimmer.
(Rampaging Hulk I#2/4) - Brad kept following Goram until the sub-skimmer was pulled up to a submarine pen where he was caught by the still living Centurius and two Arms-Men, before he could inform Bloodstone of his location.
(Rampaging Hulk I#3/2 (fb) - BTS) - Brad lost consciousness and trapped in a machine.
(Rampaging Hulk I#3/2) - Upon regaining consciousness, Brad asked Centurius to release him, but Centurius wouldn't after all the problems Brad and his friends had caused him in the past. Brad listened to Centurius' ramblings until the extradimensional entity Ulluxy'l Kwan Tae Syn teleported into the base to reclaim the bloodgem from Centurius only to learn that they were both part of the Conspiracy.
The combined forces of S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man and Ulysses Bloodstone attacked Centurius' new Mid-Atlantic island base to free captured scientists and Brad Carter. They fought their way through monsters and Arms-Men, but Centurius escaped. Brad Carter was freed and warned everyone that the base was ringed with warheads set to explode. Bloodstone ordered everyone to get the prisoners off the island ASAP.
(Rampaging Hulk I#4/2) - They got off the island just in time. On their way back to Bloodstone Island Brad asked Ulysses why he looked so glum. Ulysses explained that it was a hollow victory that left them with more questions about the Conspiracy than answers. While approaching Bloodstone Island their plane was attacked by the island's defense systems. Ulysses jumped off board to deal with the invaders after Brad blasted a hole into the lower deck while steering clear of the base's weapon blasts. It turned out that Samantha Eden had familiarized herself with the defense controls and had left them active while alone on the island. She apologized to Brad, Ulysses and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Eric Koenig. Ulysses offered her a job and Brad noticed that Ulysses seemed smitten with her. Brad went to the central control center to check on the damages their base had sustained recently. It looked expensive, but not like the tower would fall on their heads. Ulysses headed for the meditation chamber and Brad noticed that something was off with him.
Brad took an inspection tour on a hover platform through the base. During his tour energy bands took him off the platform and he immediately rushed to the meditation chamber because he feared it had something to do with Ulysses Bloodstone. He was proven right because upon entering the chamber he saw the energy bands seemingly attacking Bloodstone and tried to get his employer to safety, but the energy bands hit him hard. Ulysses ended his meditation to check on Brad and explained to him that the energy was not evil and just the manifestation of the Exo-Mind, which had provided him with more information on the Conspiracy.
(Rampaging Hulk I#5/2) - Brad Carter traveled to New York City with Ulysses Bloodstone and they ran into some problems with their hotel reservations. Things cleared up fast with the lobby clerk and Brad was left at his room by Bloodstone.
(Rampaging Hulk I#6/2 (fb) - BTS) - Brad heard a huge explosion and rushed to Bloodstone's rushed only to see him dash up to another floor.
(Rampaging Hulk I#6/2) - Brad was walking down the corridor at the hotel with Samantha Eden, who had just returned from France, and had a run-in with the lobby clerk that had caused Brad and Ulysses some trouble earlier. The clerk was furious at what was going on and wished he had never allowed Brad and Ulysses to stay at the hotel because now the police was in the lobby and firemen were at Ulysses' room. A moment later Brad and the others witnessed Ulysses crash through a wall with Conspiracy agents. Ulysses confronted the furious lobby clerk about the explosives and titanium reinforcements in his room and promised not to sue to calm him down. Ulysses then took off with Brad and Sam and they took a taxi to Harlem to meet with Bloodstone's old friend William Brandon Montague III aka. Billy Brand at his bar. Brand took them to Ulysses' Minibase 6 under the bar. Brand finally recognized Brad Carter as a famous actor. Because Ulysses was was unable to establish contact with Bloodstone Island from Minibase 6, he sent Brad with the sub-skimmer back to the island to check out what was going on.
(Rampaging Hulk I#8/2) - Brad arrived on Bloodstone Island with the sub-skimmer and found Ulysses' base completely destroyed and burning. He was now stuck on Bloodstone Island because he was unable to refuel the sub-skimmer to return to New York. He still wanted to inform Bloodstone about the status of his base and headed to the radio, which he hoped was still working, to get word to Billy Brand. One of Centurius' Arms-Men stopped Brad Carter and told him that Ulysses Bloodstone has probably already perished and that Brad didn't need a rescue party either because he would join Ulysses in death. The Arms-Man then blasted Brad with an energy weapon that left nothing behind of Brad than a pile of burning ash.
Comments: Created by Jim Steranko & Frank Giacoia.
Brad Carter's hair was definitely lighter in his Rampaging Hulk appearances, but I was unable to determine the exact hair color due to the black & white nature of these comics. He probably dyed his hair black while working as an actor.
