City and Los Angeles, USA (Earth-45828)
First Appearance: Hokum & Hex#5 (January,

Powers/Abilities: Bloodshed is a ruthless
killer
and relentless in his mission. He is a human transformed into a
sentient energy field and given mass, and so is near invulnerable.
Bloodshed has low-level superhuman strength and can shoot a focused
heat beam from his exposed heart, or generate a searing heat blast up
to about 10' radius; however, prolonged darkness depletes the energy to
maintain the weapon. As a blood reaper empowered by a god, he can send
a murder by his hand into another dimension to feed a Sun Flower so
that it will birth a new sun to sustain planets of followers.
He has Dissociative Identity
Disorder (multiple personalties) with two others manifesting at
the same time acting as observers; these appear to be his child self
and dead twin sister. In his original adult human form, he was a
proficient and stealthy assassin.
Height:7',
formerly 5'9" (as human)
Weight: Unrevealed
Eyes: None, formerly unrevealed
(as human)
Hair: None, formerly black (as
human)
History:
(Hokum & Hex#9 (fb)) - As children, Vincent and
twin sister Victoria enjoyed playing on rides together. But their
father killed Victoria and Vincent manifested her in his head as a
personality.
(Hokum & Hex#7 (fb) - BTS) - Vincent became a
serial
killer. One of his targets was Louise Munroe, the mother of Trip,
although her murder was never solved.
Vincent channeled his talents into becoming an assassin in the employ
of billionaire and manipulative media magnate Paragon John.
(Hokum & Hex#5) - To continue his suppression of
the general population's knowledge of the super-powered heroes dubbed
the Hyperkind, Paragon John had the assassin Vincent of his Para Corps
murder the judge who had witnessed "super-magician" Trip Munroe's
battle with Z-Man
(and caused his memories of Hyperkind to resurface). Because the
demigod Godkin Straith had empowered Munroe to be Earth's
protector, Straith's opposite--Felon Bale--could likewise empower a
champion and chose the assassin because of his link to Trip
Munroe's past.
Immediately after the murder, Bale pulled Vincent into his void and
stripped the killer of his flesh and tissue, and remade him into a
powerful blood reaper with exposed blood circulation and dubbed him
Bloodshed. The killer unquestioningly took on the mission to eliminate
Munroe and then Munroe's reluctant accomplice Gorkill (formerly of
Bale's Corpii forces).
(Hokum & Hex#6) - On a jetliner flight to New
York, Bloodshed examined one of Munroe's lost god-enhanced magic tarot
cards. Later, he chastised Bale's Corpii warriors for their failure in
Bale's initial invasion, declaring his murderous mission and commanding
the Corpii warriors retrieve the remaining tarot cards, which could act
as doorways between dimensions. Corpii warriors who resisted
Bloodshed's mission to slay Gorkill were killed, their life essences
sent to another dimension to generate new worlds through a Sun Flower.
Soon after, Bloodshed tracked down Munroe, just as Gorkill was about to
kill Munroe as per his original mission.
(Hokum & Hex#7) - Bloodshed grabbed Gorkill;
realizing Bloodshed's mission was to kill him as well, Gorkill released
Munroe so that he could use his transforming powers against their foe.
Munroe turned a pencil into a pike, but Bloodshed easily countered with
a heated heartblast; Gorkill tried a knife stab that proved fruitless.
However, recognizing mass meant Bloodshed was still subject to physics,
Gorkill knocked him back and fled with Munroe, but this left the killer
alone
with Bale's son, disgraced Neobys judge Solon Rey. Bloodshed tied up
Rey and tortured him in Munroe's apartment. Humiliated bounty hunter
Wrath sought vengeance on Munroe and attacked Bloodshed's shadow,
thinking it Munroe; Bloodshed burnt her skin before punching her dead
in a blood reaper ritual. Her death by Bloodshed's hand was channeled
to the
extradimensional Sun Flower. Elsewhere, Straith became aware of this
increased activity. Meanwhile, Bloodshed pursued Munroe and Gorkill,
eventually arriving at the hospital where Munroe's close friend Mona
Lisa McDonagh lay comatose in hospital, and he smashed power generators
to draw out Munroe.
Gorkill warned Munroe that Bloodshed was goading him into a
confrontation. But when Bloodshed revealed he had killed Munroe's
mother, Munroe angrily got too close, and he and Gorkill were thrown
into the hospital's last generator.
(Hokum & Hex#8) - Munroe and Gorkill's consciousnesses landed in the neurosphere, a cyberspace where "hyperminds" briefly go before they die. Munroe realized that Bloodshed's hypermind might be in the neurosphere too and hunted for it.
(Hokum & Hex#9 (fb) - BTS) - Meanwhile, Bale,
incensed at his son's betrayal, had Corpii lackeys kidnap Rey using a
tarot card doorway so that he could be later killed by Bloodshed.
(Hokum & Hex#9) - Munroe found Bloodshed in the
neurosphere and attacked him, but the blood reaper shrugged it off. In
the real world, Gorkill had recovered and distracted Bloodshed so that
he could begin resuscitation of Munroe. In the neurosphere, Munroe's
conscious mind was causing turmoil and a raging river. Munroe goaded
Bloodshed into the river where they were both thrown about, eventually
reaching a shore. Now much more in control of his power, Munroe had one
of his humanoid manifestations pull out the human form of Vincent from
Bloodshed and they explored Vincent's past as a child. In the real
world, angered
and aware of Munroe was finding out about his past, Bloodshed began the
blood reaper ritual to draw out the dead's soul and blood, but Munroe
wasn't actually dead; this produced a feedback loop that destroyed
Bloodshed and restored Munroe to life.
Comments:
Created by Frank Lovece & Anthony Williams.
Hokum & Hex
and Trip Munroe were created by Clive Barker, but it's unrevealed how
much input he had beyond the initial concept; I don't think Barker had
fleshed out this villain.
