(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3 (fb) - BTS - Kay was married to Rob, but )was apparently unaware of how her husband resented his lousy life and job, and how he felt that she stripped away his manhood (some of this may have been minimal prior to his missing the cable car).

(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3 (fb) <Approximately a year before the main story> - One Thursday morning, Kay reminded Rob to take out the garbage. Already running late, Rob told her that he couldn't and had to rush, but she sternly told him to "either take out the trash, or I'll serve it to you for supper tonight!"

(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3 (fb) - BTS - Taking out the trash, Rob was late and missed his trolley, which was the cable car that was hit by the Jumpstart Effect, which turned all its occupants into super-powered "ultras."

(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3 (fb) - BTS) - Wishing that he had been on the cable car and gained ultra powers to become a "hero," Rob, over time, began to resent ultras, as well as his wife. He plotted to kill every ultra, starting with the high-profile group dubbed the Strangers (who had been on the trolley).

(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3 (fb) - BTS - Kay arranged a fund raiser for the local children's hospice at the Suburban Shopping Mall, with the Strangers Grenade and Electrocute appearing to promote the event.bartlett-kay-93060-facesad

(Ultraverse Premiere#8/3) - Kay thanked Grenade and Electrocute for helping to make the fund raiser so successful, noting that the children at the hospital would be so grateful. As she started to say, "Just wait till they--", she was cut off when Rob (his face hidden in a ski mask, smashed through a skylight and attacked the crowd with dynamite and guns to get to the two Strangers.

Electrocute disarmed Rob of his assault rifle, and when he refused to surrender and pulled a handgun, Grenade blasted the floor in front of him, knocking him to the ground and shredding his mask. Nonetheless, Rob insisted that this wasn't over until he had killed every last one of them.

Rob was on his back, supported by an arm as Kay ran to him, concerned, but Rob revealed his motives, that he hated ultras and that he hated her.

Kay told him that he didn't mean that, but Rob reviewed the events that had led to this, how it was her fault, and how it had been festering within him since then.

Kay still had her arm around him as he told her that if he hadn't prevented her from getting on the trolley, he would have become an ultra and a hero.

Grenade berated Rob, stating that he could never be a hero because of all the senseless injury, death and destruction Bartlett had caused.
