History:
(Psi-Force I#3) - Cool was a teenage runaway who
lived at the Sanctuary youth shelter in San Francisco, California. Cool
started a rivalry against the five recent newcomers Michael Crawley,
Anastasia Inyushin, Tyrone Jessup, Kathy Ling and Wayne Tucker, not
knowing they were all paranormals. When Cool found Tyrone Jessup was
deep asleep in his room (because his astral form was active), Cool was
fascinated, thinking Tyrone might be meditating. When Michael Crawley
tried to make Cool leave Tyrone alone, Cool threatened to stab Tyrone
with his knife. Before he could make good on the threat, Colby Shaw,
the woman who ran Sanctuary, intervened and made Cool leave Tyrone and
Crawley alone.
Cool went to school and sat with his friend Stig in the back of the biology classroom. When Crawley started engaging their teacher Ms. Smollett with questions, Cool and Stig were annoyed because she would have dismissed the class early if Crawley hadn't spoken up. At the end of school, Cool attacked Crawley and threw him to the ground. Wayne Tucker intervened and used his psychic powers to force Cool to leave Crawley alone.
That night, Cool spied on Psi-Force as they met in Golden Gate Park and summoned up the Psi-Hawk, the psychic manifestation of their deceased mentor Emmett Proudhawk. When Cool saw them conjure up the Psi-Hawk, he became afraid of them and resolved the five of them had to be taken care of.
The following day, Cool assembled his gang and ambushed Crawley, Jessup, Inyushin and Ling as they were walking from school to Sanctuary. Cool and four of his fellow gang members drew knives and chased the four paranormals, forcing them to run down an alley, where more of Cool's gang were waiting. The gang surrounded the four paranormals, who were reluctant to use their parabilities and hesitated at fighting back. Suddenly, Wayne Tucker arrived and used his parability to make Cool and his entire gang fall unconscious then removed their memories of the event so they wouldn't remember what happened to them.
(Psi-Force I#6) - On December 24, 1986, the teenagers at Sanctuary were invited to decorate a Christmas tree but Cool refused to let Tyrone or Michael near the tree, telling them the tree was for "regular kids." Colby Shaw had to break up the altercation before any violence. Cool accused Tyrone, Michael and their friends of being snobs who had suddenly decided they could mingle "with us lowlifes." Michael decided not to join the tree decorating and Tyrone decided that if being part of Sanctuary's crowd meant working with Cool, he'd rather not decorate either. Cool and his friends, including Johnny, celebrated that he'd driven off the "weirdos."
That evening, Sanctuary threw a party for all of the teenagers. Cool spiked the punch bowl with vodka then snuck away with Johnny and Shades to browse the uninhabited rooms and see if there was anything worth stealing. Entering Tyrone's room, they found Tyrone passed out. Cool again assumed Tyrone was "meditating" and decided to take advantage of his state, dressing him up in a makeshift Santa Claus costume. Cool intended to invite people upstairs from the party to sit on Tyrone's knee and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Crawley entered the room and was angry to see what they were doing to Tyrone. Having drunk some of the spiked punch, Crawley attempted to use his psychokinesis to destroy Cool's knife but instead, he destroyed a number of other objects in Tyrone's room, startling Cool, Shades and Johnny but not harming them.
Tucker, Inyushin and Ling heard the noise and entered the room but Cool held his knife to Tyrone's throat. As more teenagers came upstairs from the party to investigate the noise, one of them, Bill, hit Tucker from behind, preventing him from using his parability to end the conflict. When Bill tried to grab Ling, she used her telekinesis to hurl him across the room. This frightened the other teenagers and they all began to take Cool's side against Psi-Force. Cool started slapping Tyrone, demonstrating to the others how he wouldn't awaken. Ling and Crawley tried to fight back with their powers but Cool threatened to slit Tyrone's throat if they used their parabilities again. Suddenly, Tyrone's astral form returned to his body and Tyrone surprised Cool, hurling him over his shoulders and on to the floor. Cool got up to keep fighting but Tyrone punched him, knocking him out of his room. Just then, Colby Shaw arrived and although she knew Psi-Force hadn't started the fight, she couldn't permit them to stay at Sanctuary; the five teens left Sanctuary that same night.
