History:

(Spider-Gwen Annual#1/2 (fb) - BTS) - The nefarious Koala Kommander abused Earth-65's Australian law that anyone who caught a falling wild koala had to raise it; he caught clumsy koalas and raised them to become an evil army of vicious Drop Bears. He held a psychological hold over the Drop Bears and could direct their attacks, although his hold could be broken by hugging the Drop Bear or giving a eucalyptus treat.

(Spider-Gwen Annual#1/2) - (Presumably in New York) Koala Kommander directed a large Drop Bear attack against Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy).

(Spider-Gwen Annual#1/4) - Wishing to see action, insight and excitement, the Watcher was instead frustrated to see Spider-Woman fight the disappointing Koala Kommander.

(Spider-Gwen II#14) - Koala Kommander returned and attacked New York's Thanksgiving Parade in retribution for Australia not having one. Gwen Stacy, affected by temporary loss, saw it on live television. Her visiting friends from Earth-616, Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) and Porcupine (Roger Goring), raced enthusiastically to fight the threat.

Um, yeah... Thanksgiving isn't an Australian thing. It's not a case of "If Australia can't have Thanksgiving," it's more "Australia doesn't have Thanksgiving." Crikey, what a w@#%&*!!

Drop bears are local Australian folklore created by the locals to scare tourists for amusement. Mythical beasts and beings are commonplace in the Marvel Universe, and evidently these critters have made their way to Earth-65.

It is a relatively common, if somewhat frustrating, misconception that koalas are bears - they are not. They are mostly docile marsupials that eat gum leaves, doze and occasionally grunt. Unfortunately, they are referred to as koala bears in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (maybe the Marvel Multiverse has variations of them; it might explain the pointy ears in this case).

Drop Bears

Koala Kommander created a personal army of Drop Bears, psychologically manipulated from clumsy wild koalas. Koala Kommander was somehow able to transport them internationally for his chaotic crimes. However, the Drop Bears' vicious nature could be thwarted by hugs and eucalyptus treats.
