History: (Alpha Flight I#83 - fb) ) - The Tribe of the Moon, which consisted of Bear Brother, Firehand, Talks-To-Spirits, and Willow-Dancer, were a disparate group of heroes that banded together and battled supernatural evil in prehistoric Canada.

(Alpha Flight I#83) - After Talks-To-Spirits received a prophecy that Nahita of the Elk Tribe was destined to join them as Talisman, the Tribe witnessed a rain of bones, which foretold the coming of the Dwellers of the Twisted Realms. The Tribe defended Nahita from the Dwellers, then bade her to reach into Talks-To-Spirits' medicine pouch. She did and withdrew the Coronet of Enchantment; placing it on her head, she became Talisman.

(Alpha Flight I#83) - Years passed, and the Tribe battled a number of supernatural menaces, including the Creatures of the Caves, the Sharks From Beyond Time, rogue Deviants, the Dimension Giants, and the Ice-Devils. After defeating the latter, Talisman told the Tribe of their upcoming battle against Llan, the Sorceror. Immediately afterwards, Dako, a man from Nahita's village, ran into their cave and told them that the people of the village had become monsters. He soon transformed into a monster himself and grabbed the Tribe before Talisman destroyed him. The Tribe journeyed to Nahita's village, and found it destroyed. Llan triggered an earthquake, and told them that he would soon open the Gateway of Night and release the Dwellers of the Twisted Realms into Earth. The Tribe travelled north to the Gateway, a giant crater, where they were attacked by Llan's dragons, who killed Willow-Dancer. While the rest of the Tribe battled the dragons, Talisman confronted Llan, and tricked him into trapping himself in the form of a totem for ten thousand years.

(Alpha Flight I#83) - Ten thousand years later, with Llan once more returning to power, Nakita's successor as Talisman, Elizabeth Twoyoungmen, went on a vision quest and saw her predecessor's battles with the sorcerer.

All of the Tribe members are presumably long-dead, although with comics, who knows.

Talisman and Talks-To-Spirits' abilities were magical - could Firehand, Bear Brother, and/or Willow-Dancer be mutants? I would suspect not, as Apocalypse (born about 3000 BC, 5000 years after the Tribe of the Moon) is generally referred to as Earth's first mutant. I'd speculate that their powers are also magical. They could also be mutates, but there aren't a lot of science accidents and super-serums in a pre-industrial society, although there's always meteorites and alien crash-sites.

It's never explicitly stated that Talks-To-Spirits' infinite pouch is the same one that Shaman (Michael Twoyoungmen) uses, but it very well could be.

Talisman

(Nahita)

(Alpha Flight I#83 (fb) ) - Nahita grew up in an Elk Tribe village with Pako.

(Alpha Flight I#83) - 17-year-old Nahita was gathering berries until she was caught in a rain of bones. Struck in the head with a bear skull, she experienced a vision of an environmental apocalypse, and of an idol of Llan the Sorceror. Llan's minions, the Dwellers of the Twisted Realms, attacked, and she was defended by the Tribe of the Moon, who had been led to her by a prophecy. Talks-To-Spirits bade her to reach into his medicine pouch. She did and withdrew the circlet; placing it on her head, she became Talisman.

The Tribe travelled north to the Gateway, a giant crater, where they were attacked by Llan's dragons. While the rest of the Tribe battled the dragons, Talisman confronted Llan, who had taken the form of a dragon. Calling forth a curse placed on Llan 10000 years prior by her predecessor as Talisman, Nahita commanded Llan to take the form of the small totem she had seen in her visions. She walked a circle around him and placed a binding spell on him, trapping him in that helpless form for another 10000 years.

Talisman wears the Coronet of Enchantment, which allows her to tap into Earth's mystical energies; she can cast spells and fire energy bolts.
