History:

(Annie Oakley II#7/1 (fb) - BTS) - Lulu LaBella played the role of a traveling dance hall performer but was secretly the masked and armed androgynous thief Scarlet Shadow. She stole money and sent it sewn inside her wigs to an accomplice elsewhere, using her charm and beauty to influence local men to avert attention. However, she wore a distinctive perfume. Meanwhile, US Marshal Spades Sherman was on the trail of the Scarlet Shadow, suspecting LaBella but lacking proof.

(Annie Oakley II#7/1 (fb)) - LaBella arrived by stagecoach in the town of Buena Vista, New Mexico Territory, which was protected by vigilante and rodeo performer Annie Oakley and her secret mutual love Sheriff Idaho Smith. LaBella's beauty and perfume instantly charmed Smith, who invited her to the rodeo barn dance, much to Oakley's chagrin. Sherman rode in, posing as a roving gambler, knowing Oakley's reputation, told Oakley of his suspicions about LaBella. After the dance, LaBella changed into the Scarlet Shadow and raided the bank, then the next night night the Express Office of its cash payroll. Oakley almost caught her, but was left with only a waft of the crook's familiar scent. Smith was now also suspicious but behaved as if still entranced so as to identify where she sent her wigs, secretly sewn laden with stolen cash, for would-be repair; however, he had dispatched his deputy Yucca to the address and arrested LaBella's accomplice. Oakley and the three lawmen confronted LaBella and she was arrested for her crimes.

Spades Sherman

US Marshall Spades Sherman had been trailing the Scarlet Shadow for a year. He arrived in the town of Buena Vista, New Mexico Territory, which was protected by vigilante and rodeo performer Annie Oakley and her secret mutual admirer Sheriff Idaho Smith. Sherman kept the cover of a roving gambler and was the handsome date for Oakley when Idaho Smith was distracted by dance performer LaBella's charms. However, the protective Smith clashed with Sherman when he realized that the would-be gambler was Oakley's date. But Sherman had confided with Oakley about his true identity and mission, and together they revealed that LaBella was the armed thief Scarlet Shadow. Sherman left town with LaBella arrested.
