Powers/Abilities: While briefly "alive,"
Scarecrow was empathic toward humans and had self-awareness, sight and
and speech. It was driven to protecting humans to the point of
self-sacrifice within its short lifespan of hours. Rain weakened its
structure of straw and sticks.

(World of Suspense#2/1 (fb) - BTS) - A disheveled
scarecrow held up by a frame stood in a farmer's field in a valley near
a town for several years, its form scaring away crows from crops.
(World of Suspense#2/1) - One night, during a fierce
rainstorm, a lightning bolt hit the scarecrow, sparking life with
self-awareness and empathy toward humans. Believing it had long yearned
for human contact and journey around the valley, it ambled along a path
and sought to make friends with two people, who instead fled in terror.
Its keen button eyes scanned the horizon and saw the town dam had a
dangerous leaking lock. Its straw body wet in the rain and its life
force ebbing, it struggled to reach the dam, focused on saving the
town. Reaching the dam, it saw the sleeping dam controller sick in bed.
Its life force almost gone, Scarecrow chose to sacrifice itself out of
love for the townspeople by jamming its body of straw, sticks and rags
into the crack. The next day, its crumpled form was found; elsewhere,
the farmer saw his scarecrow had disappeared and crows were at his

The story was titled "When walks the Scarecrow?" (capitalized as a name), so I feel his identity should be Scarecrow, not just a scarecrow.
