History: (Nomad II#9 (fb) - BTS) - The street urchins known as the Undergrounders cheated the Pipeline gang out of some money, causing the Pipeline member Ebbtide to go after the Undergrounders.

(Nomad II#7 - BTS) - When Pipeline agent Ebbtide killed the Undergrounder known as Rockport, he exclaimed "Don't $#@! with the Pipeline!"

(Nomad II#8 - BTS) - Still working for the Pipeline, Ebbtide tracked down another Undergrounder and murdered him at point blank range.

(Nomad II#9) - After Ebbtide killed the Undergrounder Tenure, the Undergrounders convinced Nomad to get involved. Visiting Santa Monica beach for three weeks while trying to find a lead on the Pipeline gang, Nomad befriended Pipeline member Jackie and used her to get an invite to one of the Pipeline's meetings. As predicted, Jackie eventually invited Nomad to one of the Pipeline's parties, where older Pipeline member Throwback regaled the other members with tales of protest from his younger days. Upon seeing Ebbtide walking around, Nomad followed him and learned that Ebbtide's job was to keep the Pipeline clean while they did what they had to in order to protect "their" beach. Returning to the Undergrounders, Nomad admitted that he sympathized with the Pipeline's goals but ultimately chose to confront Ebbtide. Later, Nomad appeared in costume at a Pipeline get-together, prompting Ebbtide to excuse him from the other Pipeline members to fight Nomad. Their fierce fighting soon drew the attention of the entire Pipeline gang, who Nomad warned to leave the Undergrounders alone lest he kill Ebbtide. Throwback explained that if the Pipeline backed down even once, then they might as well back out forever. When Nomad continued to threaten Ebbtide's life, however, Throwback relented and announced that the Pipeline would back out if the Undergrounders also did. Refusing to accept that deal, as it would leave the Pipeline looking dirty, Ebbtide tried to grab his gun and was shot dead by Nomad, who then left.

Jackie

Jackie was a friendly member of the Pipeline who befriended Jack Monroe (Nomad) over the course of three weeks of him secretly investigating the Pipeline at Santa Monica Beach. Eventually inviting Jack to a Pipeline meeting/party, Jackie enjoyed listening to Pipeline member Throwback tale stories of protest from his younger days and later relaxed beachside with the other Pipeline members when Nomad arrived in costume. Confused at Jack's costuming, Jackie was asked by Ebbtide to be excused while he talked to Nomad. Shortly after drawn to the fight between Nomad and Ebbtide, Jackie watched as Nomad was forced to kill Ebbtide.

Throwback

Throwback was an older member of the Pipeline and enjoyed telling stories of his younger days protesting. When Pipeline member Ebbtide was drawn into a fight with Nomad after committing a series of murders, Throwback confronted Nomad and explained that if the Pipeline backed down from the cheating Undergrounders, the gang might as well back down forever. When Nomad threatened Ebbtide's life, Throwback agreed to back down if the Undergrounders did the same. Agreeing to the deal, Nomad prepared to spare Ebbtide, who grabbed his gun, forcing Nomad to shoot him dead.
