History: (Avengers VI#7 (fb) - BTS) - The Champions of Anamelech were a group of young girls who made a pact with the demon Anamelech, periodically sacrificing others to the demon in exchange for future power and influence. The Champions of Anamelech's activities were noticed by Iron Man (Victor von Doom), who wished to investigate further but tracked the Champions to the Susan Storm Camp for Girls' Leadership, a place he dared not infiltrate.

(Avengers VI#7) - After Iron Man recruited the Avengers to help investigate the disturbances at the Susan Storm Camp and the Wasp infiltrated the Camp, the Wasp found the Champions sitting in a candlelit circle inside one of the Camp's cabins. Suspecting the seemingly innocent girls to be the cause of the mystic disturbances sensed by Iron Man, the undercover Wasp asked to join the girls, who each announced what their perceived future positions of influence and power before tricking Wasp into voluntarily walking into the sacrificial circle. Still connected to Iron Man via magic despite being unable to use her powers, Wasp summoned the other Avengers and Iron Man demanded that the Champions release Wasp. The Champions refused, explaining that the demon Anamelech had promised them favor in exchange for killing the Avengers. Following a brief battle, Iron Man cast the Flames of the Faltine through Wasp's Pym Particle projectors, banishing Anamelech's influence from Earth and nearly banishing the Champions' leader before the leader was rescued by Wasp.

"Leader"

The young girl known as "Leader" influenced several other girls at the Susan Storm Camp for Girls' Leadership into making a pact with the moon demon Anamelech. As the Champions of Anamelech, "Leader" led the girls in providing sacrifices to Anamelech and when the Avengers' Wasp (Nadia) infiltrated the Camp while searching for the source of recent mystic disturbances, "Leader" revealed that her plans for the future involved becoming President of the United States. When Nadia feigned a desire to help, "Leader" admitted that she was happy to hear it and prepared to sacrifice Nadia before the Avengers arrived. Telepathically communicating with Anamelech, "Leader" informed the Avengers that Anamelech had ordered the Champions to deliver the Avengers' bodies to her. While fighting the Avengers, "Leader" was nearly banished with Anamelech's influence when Iron Man (Victor von Doom) used the Flames of the Faltine, compressed through Wasp's Pym Particle projectors. While Doom was content to let "Leader" be banished after she had influenced the other girls, Wasp refused to let "Leader" die and rescued her.

"Leader," like the other Champions of Anamelech, had mystic knowledge enough to create sacrificial circles. When psychically connected to Anamelech, "Leader" and the others were capable of generating mystic armor and weapons.
