THE GHOST OF SILVER CITY

Real Name: Johnny Ringo

Identity/Class: Human (Old West era)

Occupation: Outlaw

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Ben Thompson

Enemies: Kid Colt

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Silver City

First Appearance: Kid Colt Outlaw#102 (January, 1962)

Powers/Abilities: Johnny Ringo was able to simulate the appearance of a "ghost." This effect was presumably achieved using luminous paint. He carried a six-gun and a derringer.

History: (Kid Colt, Outlaw#102) - Ringo was in a gunfight with Kid Colt on a Sunday and managed to get the drop on him when a reflection of sunlight temporarily blinded the Kid, but the arrival of the local sheriff put an end to the gunfight, and he arrested Ringo for having a gunfight on a Sunday.

To have his revenge on Kid Colt, Ringo had his friend Ben Thompson spread a tale in which he claimed that Kid Colt had shot him in the back. Ringo then came to Silver City to rob it, claiming to be a ghost. Kid Colt was in town and was not fooled by the trick, and proved that Ringo was quite alive by shooting him in the arm. Colt tied up Ringo and left him for the authorities to explain his "resurrection."

Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Jack Keller.

This character is possibly intended to be the historical Johnny Ringo (1850-1882), an affiliate of the Clanton Gang. The real Johnny Ringo appeared in Kid Colt, Outlaw#84 and 101, and in Wyatt Earp#19.

If he is the real Johnny Ringo, then possibly his unseen friend Ben Thompson is meant to be the historical Ben Thompson (1842-1884), another famous gunslinger of the old west.
