History:

(Daredevil II#85 (fb) - BTS) - Warden Cole grew accustomed to handling the difficult prison life of Ryker’s Island, managing drug trade, gangs, violence, corrupt guards, and super criminals such as Hammerhead, the Kingpin, Boss Morgan, and Black Tarantula (Carlos LaMuerto) in his institution. When Matt Murdock, suspected of being Daredevil, was added to the group, things began to get out of control.

(Daredevil II#81) - Director Leland Drummond of the FBI met with the Warden Cole of Ryker’s Island and expressed no sympathies for the heroes and villains who were locked away.

(Daredevil II#82) - Cole met with Drummond again at JFK Airport and explained the difficulty the last month had been with Murdock and Fisk both in custody. Drummond was arguing furiously with Cole for not keeping Murdock and Fisk in the same cell block and for having Murdock in protected custody, unwilling to listen to the legalities and questions the lawyers were raising. Drummond rushed off, having received a call from Senator David Engel. Back at Ryker’s, lawyer Foggy Nelson was reportedly murdered while visiting his client, Murdock.

(Daredevil II#83 (fb) - BTS) - Furious and overwhelmed, Cole tried tracking down the guard that allowed the murder to take place. He put out an APB and notified the authorities.

(Daredevil II#83) - Cole grew defensive when Drummond was critical with him on the phone. He yelled at his secretary, Marta, when she entered to inform him that Murdock was back, but he quickly apologized. Murdock was moved back to general population and Owl was soon badly beaten, supposedly by Murdock. Meanwhile, the guard was found dead in a gangland execution.

(Daredevil II#84) - Violence at Ryker’s continued increasing, and Bullseye was transferred there. When Hammerhead and some of his men were injured and Kingpin was set to be moved back to general population, Cole had Murdock brought to him privately. He asked him nicely to stop making his job so hard.

(Daredevil II#85 - BTS) - Things continued to grow more chaotic and deadly as the inmate who’d reportedly stabbed Foggy was found dead and the Punisher was transferred to Ryker’s.

(Daredevil II#86) - Warden Cole and Marta were walking through Ryker’s when Murdock suddenly leapt out at them and knocked down two inmates with arms. Murdock explained that a riot was planned and that they’d been there to kill Cole. Murdock encouraged Cole to get somewhere safe and call for help, with only guards he trusted. He made it to a safe place and had Captain Roberts call for aid while they reviewed the riot, many having been killed. Cole cursed Drummond for his manipulations, but Marta reminded him they were lucky to be alive.

(Daredevil II#87 (fb)) - Cole watched with Marta and Roberts, as the Punisher seemingly took Murdock hostage and escaped in the riot squad helicopter. He authorized Roberts, who supported the action, to delete all other video footage that showed Murdock as anything but a blind man, then asked Marta to contact her reporter friend.

(Daredevil II#87) - Cole later appeared on the news and stated that the FBI was responsible for the state of Ryker’s, and that Murdock had been wrongfully accused.

(Daredevil II#107 – BTS) – Warden Cole gave the warden of Sing-Sing a call to ask him to let Matt Murdock visit death row inmate, Big Ben Donovan.
