GAMMA FLIGHT

Membership: Diamond Lil, Madison Jeffries, Smart Alec, Wild Child

Purpose: To train as Canadian government agents

Affiliations: Alpha Flight (Aurora, Northstar, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird, Vindicator), Beta Flight (Box, Flashback, Marrina, Puck), Gary Cody

Enemies: None known

Base of Operations: Department H, Canada

First Appearance: Alpha Flight I#1 (August, 1983)

History: (Alpha Flight I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Gamma Flight was created as a training ground where its recruits would move up to Beta Flight, and eventually Alpha Flight.

(Alpha Flight I#51 (fb) – BTS) – Gary Cody scoured Canada looking for superhuman beings that could fill the newly-created Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Flights, eventually choosing Smart Alec, Madison Jeffries, Diamond Lil and Wild Child.

(Alpha Flight I#1 (fb) - BTS/Alpha Flight I#51 (fb)) - Following a battle involving Alpha Flight, the X-Men, and Wendigo, the Canadian Prime Minister disbanded Department H, which controlled Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Flight.

(Alpha Flight I#11) - The Gamma Flight members Diamond Lil, Smart Alec, and Wild Child were recruited by Delphine Courtney to be part of Jerry Jaxon's Omega Flight team. Delphine avoided Jeffries, fearing what his power could do to her.

(Alpha Flight I#28) - Madison Jeffries later helped dismantle Omega Flight, partly because they had helped kill Guardian, but also because he still cared about his former Gamma Flight teammates Diamond Lil and Wild Child.

Comments: Created by John Byrne.

The uniforms worn by Gamma Flight were the same that Alpha Flight once wore when they were simply "the Flight." (see individual entries for Ground Hog, Stitch and Saint Elmo). The uniforms were used again for the third incarnation of Gamma Flight.

Smart Alec was a member with a long history with the training program and was originally a member of "the Flight" but was never moved up because he needed further training (he didn't work well under pressure).
