History:

(Big Hero 6#2: Ebon Samurai (fb)) - Captain Kioshi was a member of the National Police Agency, assigned to the Imperial Guard to protect the Emperor. During an assassination attempt by Hydra on the Emperor Kioshi was killed by the Silver Samurai, who was affiliated with Hydra at that point. His soul descended to Yomi where he Mikaboshi sensed Kiochi's thirst for vengeance and offered him to return to the mortal realm to exact his revenge on the Silver Samurai. Kioshi accepted unaware Mikaboshi permanently bonded him to a suit of armor modeled after Silver Samurai's. In addition his katana sword was mystically bonded to the essence of a shinma demon's corrupting influence which subconsciously reminded him of the debt he owed to Mikaboshi and corrupted Ebon Samurai a bit more each time he drew the katana. Kioshi began to search for Silver Samurai and infiltrated Big Hero 6 when he learned the Silver Samurai was affiliated with them. Unfortunately the Silver Samurai had left them and was believed to have died. After a short fight with the team he explained his situation to them and joined Big Hero 6.

(Alpha Flight III#9 (fb)-BTS) - At some point, the Silver Samurai left Big Hero Six and was replaced by the Ebon Samurai. The team was then placed under the control of an unknown party, who sent the team to Canada to battle Alpha Flight.

(Alpha Flight III#9) - Ebon Samurai, along with the rest of Big Hero Six, attacked Alpha Flight, with the Samurai matching swords against Nemesis. Sasquatch found the device used to control the Japanese heroes located on Baymax. Returning to their senses, the two teams were attempting to figure out who was responsible when Flashback arrived and begged Alpha Flight for their aid.

(Alpha Flight III#12 - BTS) - After Alpha Flight went into the past on an adventure, they eventually ended back up where they started, finishing up their fight with Big Hero Six.

(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Teams 2005) - After Alpha Flight went into the past on an adventure, they eventually ended back where they started, finishing up their fight with Big Hero Six.

(Civil War Battle Damage Report#1) - Ebon Samurai and the rest of Big Hero Six attended a press conference with Otomo and Red Ronin, reaffirming their stance on protecting Japan from superhuman threats.

(Big Hero 6#3/2 (fb) ) - Ebon Samurai left the team to search for Silver Samurai again when he learned that he still lived. He found Silver Samurai employed as the Prime Minister's captain of personal security. Unable to betray Japan Ebon Samurai decided not to kill Silver Samurai until he disgraced himself in the Prime Minister's eyes.

(Big Hero 6#3/2) - Ebon Samurai returned to BH6's HQ where he met, to his surprise, his former teammate Sunpyre, who had left the team even before he did. After talking about both their fates they went to get some sake and heard the villain Deadline entering the building by force. Sunpyre was shot by Deadline, but Ebon Samurai was close behind her to face Deadline himself.

(Big Hero 6#4/2) - Ebon Samurai rendered Deadline's heat blaster unusable and it exploded shortly after Deadline tossed it in Ebon Samurai's direction. Samurai escaped the blast and followed Deadline into the lab where Deadline used one of Kuro Gaki's adhesive blasters against him. Avoiding the black goop from the weapon Ebon Samurai resisted using his katana and instead drew his wakazashi blade, flinging it at Deadline. Sunpyre, overhearing Deadline wanted to save the world and thinking she could save Honey Lemon by aiding Deadline, melted the blade and then viciously attacked Ebon Samurai to buy Deadline enough time to activate his doomsday device. Forced to draw his demon-possessed katana Ebon Samurai lost control over himself and nearly killed Sunpyre burying her under the remnants of the hallway. Upon returning to the lab he destroyed Deadline's adhesive gun and cut off his hand before Deadline could activate his doomsday device. Deciding he had to kill Deadline to prevent him from ever trying to destroy Tokyo again Ebon Samurai readied him to be executed, but Sunpyre turned up alive and asked him to stop. Ebon Samurai came to his senses when Sunpyre didn't defend herself. Ebon Samurai used another adhesive gun to trap Deadline, told Sunpyre that she had to return home to deal with all the unresolved things there and then left with Sunpyre ready to leave for the Microverse.

Comments: Created by Scott Lobdell, Clayton Henry and Mark Morales.

Ebon Samurai and Sunpyre were replacments on the team meant to evoke the original members, who were being used elsewhere (Silver Samurai had been "killed" in Elektra's book). Whether or not Ebon Samurai had similar powers to Silver Samurai is unknown.

Short profile, but excluding the headshot, he had all of 3 panels to his appearance.
