Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Chronal Accelerator was built to create energy fields that could speed up or slow down the passage of time.

History: (GLA#1) - Maelstrom broke into the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and stole the Chronal Accelerator. He was briefly distracted by the arrival of the Great Lakes Avengers, but soon escaped with the Accelerator, killing Dinah Soar in the process.

(GLA#2) - Once he had secured the Chronal Accelerator, Maelstrom hired Batroc's Brigade to steal the Atomic Inverter X-99 from the Roxxon Energy Corporation.

(GLA#3) - With the Atomic Inverter in his hands, Maelstrom plotted to combine the Inverter with the Chronal Accelerator in order to speed up the demise of the universe. Trying to figure out what Maelstrom was up to, the Great Lakes Avengers visited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and discovered what the Accelerator was built for.

(GLA#4) - Tipped off by Deathurge, the Great Lakes Avengers discovered Maelstrom's underwater base, where he had activated the Atomic Inverter X-99/Chronal Accelerator, causing a rift to open that began sucking everything inside. Mister Immortal eventually managed to trick Maelstrom into killing himself and then shut off the machines.
