History:
(
Amazing Fantasy II#13/2 (fb)) <2 months before the main story> - Xennon and Cinglet were part of an expedition party dispatched to the surface of a geological remnant. Xennon instructed Cinglet to observe, and Cinglet found some written language, which Xennon noted to be "undiscovered." They had their droid catalog the text. xennon-microverse-upper-rearprof

Xennon subsequently noted that they had found an entry, sealed against vacuum, and asked Cinglet for agreement, which Cinglet provided, after which Cinglet authorized proceeding. After the chamber door opened, Xennon noted the language failed in describing the chamber contents, with which Cinglet concurred.

(Amazing Fantasy II#14/2 (fb) - BTS) - Xennon and Cinglet identified a cryogenically maintained specimen within the chamber, and they transported it back to their host vessel.

(Amazing Fantasy II#14/2 (fb)) - Xennon and Cinglet maintained regulatory temperature as they opened the cryogenic chamber.

Their droid/robot assistant then noted that it had completed its language comprehension and that the cryogenic chamber had been extracted from a penal compound.

One of the two concluded that the subject had been put in cryogenic suspension as punishment.

Further discussion and analysis was interrupted as one of the aliens sounded an alert of impending impact, after which their ship was struck by a meteor shower.

Comments: Created by Jay Faerber and Carlos Magno.

The stories involving Xennon and Cinglet in Amazing Fantasy II#13/2 and 14/2 took place 2 months before the Uni-Power bonded with Ted Simmons and Gabriel Vargas, during which there were power fluctuations with the Uni-Power.
Xennon and Cinglet's stories had two pages in each of those issues.
Presumably the events happening in the Microverse were associated with these power fluctuations, but the story was dropped after their ship was struck by a meteor shower in #14/2, and it remains a mystery over 20 years later.
I contacted Jay Faerber for further information on Xennon and Cinglet, and he was kind enough to go back and review the stories, but as they were written over 20 years ago, he did not recall anything about their back histories or plans.

I guess when I previously read these stories, I did not noticed the shapes of Xennon and Cinglet, but they both seem to have prominent bumps in the region of the mammary glands. Although they were fully armored, and they could have been storage pods or something, it seems like they were intended to be female...although they didn't necessarily appear to be mammalian...

I'm also not sure whether Xennon and Cinglet were the only two beings on their ship. At the start of the story, an alien of the same race as those two announced the successful deployment of the expeditionary party, and I THINK that was someone back on the main ship. Maybe it's the same being who rushed in to announce the impending impact in #14/2...

Xennon is a nice alien name as it derives from xenos, a Greek world for stranger, but Cinglet is a little more odd, as it reminds me of a one piece uniform for various sports, like wrestling.

It's not always clear, especially in #14/2, where they don't call each other by name, which one is Xennon and which is Cinglet.

This profile was completed 12/07/2025, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.

Eventually, I'll circle back to profiling Cinglet, and I'll include their ship with that.

xennon-microverse-droid-1xennon-microverse-droid-catalog     The droid walked on four legs, with two on either side of its body, and the limbs could be rotated significantly, allowing it balance itself or travel at greater speeds.

The droid responded to verbal commands, and it could scan foreign languages and then process then with its language comprehension program to translate them within a few hours or less.

Xennon and Cinglet brought their droid with them as they
dispatched to the surface of a geological remnant. When they encountered a language with which they were unfamiliar, they had the droid catalog it.

After they transported a cryogenic suspension chamber back to their host vessel, the droid informed them that it had completed its language comprehension, and it told them that they had visited a penal compound.
