History:

(D.P.7 I#31 (fb) - BTS) - The White Eventists are a cult who believe that God had used the White Event (which they called God's "terrible white gaze") to create paranormals. In this theology, God judged humanity as being overwhelmed with sin, lust, violence and depravity and intended the paranormals to serve as his messengers, granting them superhuman abilities and ensuring that when the world ended (which they predicted would be happening soon), paranormals would have a special place with God in "the White Beyond." When Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was destroyed, the White Eventists declared this was done by God as a sign that "the day of judgment was soon at hand." The White Eventists referred to paranormals as "chosen ones" and were especially welcoming to paranormals whose physical appearance had been altered by their parabilities (such paranormals had found it difficult to cope in human culture, likely driving up the White Eventists' recruitment numbers). Paranormals who converted to the White Eventist religion were said to have "seen the light." Believers would exchange a hand sign called "the Eye of God" between each other. Paranormals began joining the White Eventists, who had followers in northern Wisconsin and Manhattan.

(D.P.7 I#31 (fb)) - After two of his friends died in a car accident, the paranormal grew despondent and decided to kill himself by jumping off a bridge. He was halted by Father Milius, the leader of the White Eventist commune in northern Wisconsin. Father Milius talked Scuzz down from the bridge by telling him God had forgiven him for his sins. Father Milius welcomed Scuzz and his friend Michael Crawley into their ranks and taught them the cult's beliefs. Scuzz became taken with the White Eventists but Crawley feared his friend had become brainwashed and quit the cult.

(D.P.7 I#31) - On January 1, 1989, Michael Crawley brought Dave Landers to help him break Scuzz out of the White Eventists' compound in northern Wisconsin. Dave burst in as Father Milius was delivering a sermon. Scuzz fought with him but Father Milius reminded Scuzz of their pacifistic ways, especially when facing another paranormal. Father Milius decided Scuzz should leave the commune and go with Dave so that he could expose him to their beliefs. Dave and Crawley brought Scuzz to Manhattan, hoping to deprogram him, but Scuzz remained sincere in his beliefs.

The next day, Scuzz went out to the Bowery and started preaching to people about his beliefs. Members of the Flaming Demons gang pretended to be swayed by Scuzz's speech and invited him to come with them, claiming they had a paranormal friend he should meet. Instead, the Flaming Demons had been kidnapping White Eventists and torturing them, taking advantage of the cult's pacifist nature. The Flaming Demons chained up Scuzz next to a paranormal named Hannah as Scuzz began to burn her due to his parability. Dave rescued Scuzz and the other White Eventists, who declared Dave must be "the awaited one" and "God's messenger" because he'd saved them. Dave reluctantly concluded the cult had done some good for Scuzz and let him depart with Hannah and the other White Eventists. Scuzz decided the events of that day justified Father Milius' decision to send him to Manhattan.

(D.P.7 I#32) - On February 29, 1989, Scuzz and Hannah were preparing for dinner with the other White Eventists in downtown Manhattan when one named Robert showed them a newspaper about the Cure, a paranormal who could remove parabilities from other paranormals. The White Eventists' elder member Brother Boorman denounced the Cure as a heretic and tore up the newspaper. Later, Scuzz joined Hannah in passing out pamphlets about their faith. Scuzz suggested the Cure could be part of God's plan but Hannah dismissed the idea, saying the Cure's actions were an affront to God. Scuzz told Hannah he was in love with her and wanted permission to lose his parability so they could be together but Hannah told him it was a test of his faith.

When the Cure prepared for his public appearance to cure paranormals at Jacob Isaacsen Middle School, many White Eventists protested outside with placards calling the Cure the "anti-Christ." Scuzz attended and put his name forward to have his parability removed. When the Cure called up Scuzz, he assaulted the Cure, attempting to kill him for the White Eventists' beliefs. Scuzz's attempt failed and instead the Cure removed his parability. Although he was no longer a paranormal, Scuzz was welcomed back by the White Eventists, who considered him a hero for trying to eliminate the Cure.

(Quasar I#31 (fb) - BTS) - After the Starchild prevented World War III and told the population of Earth it was responsible for the White Event and the destruction of Pittsburgh, the White Eventists declared the Starchild was the Messiah. Their religion then became a major religious movement.

One of the White Eventists in the Wisconsin commune sure looked a lot like the Thing!

CLARIFICATIONS:
The White Eventists should not be confused with:

BROTHER BOORMAN

Brother Boorman was a paranormal who led a commune of White Eventists who lived together in Manhattan. When Robert brought in a newspaper telling of the Cure's offer to "cure" paranormals, Brother Boorman denounced the Cure as a heretic and tore up the newspaper.

HANNAH

Hannah was a paranormal woman with a rat-like tail growing from her tailbone. As a pacifist, when Hannah was captured by the Flaming Demons gang she didn't fight back as they subjected her to torture. When Scuzz was captured he was forced to hang next to her, burning her with his acidic-like sweat. Dave Landers saved Hannah and the other White Eventists and Hannah welcomed Scuzz to join their commune in Manhattan. Scuzz soon had a crush on Hannah but knew due to his parability he couldn't be intimate with her. When the Cure offered to remove paranormals' parabilities, Scuzz told Hannah about his feelings for her and suggested he should visit the Cure so they could be together, but Hannah told him his faith was being tested. Scuzz subsequently lost his parability during an attempt to kill the Cure but was welcomed back to the White Eventists; it's unrevealed whether Hannah became romantically involved with Scuzz after his return.

MADELINE

Madeline was a member of the White Eventist commune in northern Wisconsin. Her parability was unrevealed. Madeline supplied Scuzz with a new set of clothes to wear on his trip to Manhattan after he'd ruined his clothes in a fight with Dave Landers.

FATHER MILIUS

Father Milius was a paranormal whose parability was unrevealed. Father Milius led a commune of White Eventists who were based in northern Wisconsin. Father Milius helped prevent Scuzz from killing himself and instead recruited him into the White Eventists. When Dave Landers and Michael Crawley came to break Scuzz out of the cult, Father Milius decided to let Scuzz go of his own volition so that Scuzz could teach Dave the truth about their beliefs.

ROBERT

Robert (also called "Brother Bob") was a paranormal member of the White Eventists' Manhattan commune. Robert's skin appeared to be covered in ice and he generated cold in his vicinity. When Robert brought a newspaper to the commune that indicated the Cure could "cure" paranormals of their parabilities, Robert was strictly admonished by Brother Boorman who told him the Cure was a heretic.
