History:
(D.P.7 I#32 (fb) - BTS) - William Wexler became a paranormal sometime after the White Event, a brilliant flash of light that occurred on July 22, 1986 (caused by the Star Brand). Wexler discovered he had the parability to remove parabilities from other people. Taking the name "the Cure," at some point Wexler began to travel around offering to remove people's parabilities. Because some people were opposed to his actions, Wexler was accompanied by Irwin and Ronald, his bodyguards.
(D.P.7 I#32) - On February 29, 1989, newspapers announced the Cure was coming to Manhattan to cure paranormals. As Wexler was relaxing in a Manhattan hotel, the room was invaded by the self-styled super-hero Captain Manhattan and his companion Chrome, who entered through the room's window. Irwin and Ronald entered the room to defend Wexler but Captain Manhattan created a force field which they ran into. Wexler told Irwin and Ronald he wasn't in danger and agreed to speak with them. Captain Manhattan wanted to know if the Cure was a charlatan, "looking to cash in on people's suffering." The Cure assured him he had the parability to cure other paranormals and offered to cure both of them on the spot. Captain Manhattan refused, calling his life as a super-hero his "calling" but Chrome was tempted by the offer. The Cure could see she was hesitant and wasn't ready to accept his offer. The Cure informed them he was going to appear in public the following Saturday at a location yet-to-be announced and would cure paranormals. Captain Manhattan threatened to come after the Cure if he couldn't do what he claimed he could do. The Cure replied he wasn't worried.
On Saturday, the Cure appeared at Jacob Isaacsen Middle School in lower Manhattan. His appearance drew in an enormous crowd of paranormals, including many who protested him, including members of the White Eventist cult who viewed parabilities as a gift from God. Some paranormals carried placards calling the Cure "the anti-Christ." Inside the school, the Cure appeared on a stage and informed the crowd he'd come to heal paranormals, saying it was no one's fault that certain people had been afflicted with the "plight" of paranormal abilities and he rejected the idea it was part of God's plan. He noted that some of those assembled were curious, some were desperate and some were cursed; he promised to give knowledge to the curious, hope to the desperate and salvation to the cursed. He promised to cure every paranormal but explained that using his gift took a lot of his own energy and he wouldn't be able to cure everyone in one day. However, he promised that before he left Manhattan he would cure everyone who wanted to receive it.
The audience had supplied a list of their names on entering and the Cure proposed a lottery system, choosing names at random from the list. The first person the Cure summoned up was Merriam Sorensen, who had a parability that caused her to absorb large amounts of moisture; Merriam came up to the stage and the Cure placed his hands on her, causing a flash of white light. Merriam's parability vanished and she ran excitedly from the school. The Cure continued to summon up paranormals, among them George Mullaney, the Mutator, whose body had been forced to mutate every 48 hours; the Cure removed George's parability. When he summoned up Randy O'Brien (using the alias "Randy O'Connell"), Randy wondered if the Cure could free him from the Anti-Body he'd been trapped inside of without removing his parability to create other Anti-Bodies. The Cure explained that his parability was all or nothing, so Randy refused to be cured and left the stage. Seeing this, the Cure announced that anyone else who wasn't ready to receive the cure should leave immediately. As some paranormals left the room, the Cure cured a woman named Heather Madison.
When the Cure called up Dennis Cuzinski ("Scuzz") he assumed Scuzz wanted to be cured but Scuzz was a White Eventist and attempted to murder the Cure. Grabbing the Cure by the wrists, Scuzz activated his parability, causing fiery acid to emerge from his skin as he declared himself "the Lord's cleansing fire." Finally, the Cure's parability activated and removed Scuzz's parability, thereby saving the Cure's life. The Cure's arms were badly burned from Scuzz's attack but Stephanie Harrington used her parability to quickly heal him.

Note that the blast of white light when he uses his parability is the same effect used to depict the White Event.
