tutenstein-marvel-headoffPowers/Abilities: It is unrevealed whether Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun had any superhuman abilities in life, but as a pharaoh, he had numerous warriors and servants.

As Tutenstein, he has a number of magical abilities allowing him to exist in his reanimated form.

His head tends to pop off of his neck when he became very upset, but he can reattach it without any consequences.

Tutenstein can open portals through time and space, at between the modern day museum to his own native time period in Egypt.

He can fire mystic blasts able to drive back numerous demon-creatures.

He uses a scepter, which is either a source or a focus for his powers.

tutenstein-marvel-sarcHistory:
(
Tutenstein (fb) - BTS) - As a youth (before he was shaving; see comments), Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun was a pharaoh in ancient Egypt.

After his death, he was mummified, and he had a great tomb built to honor him, filled with the finest jewels and treasures in all the land.

In recent years, Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun's mummy was brought to a (presumably) Manhattan-based museum, where it was kept as a permanent exhibit.

Under unrevealed circumstances, Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun revived as a living mummy. Although he lived/slept within his sarcophagus, he frequently came out of it, and he became familiar with museum guide Cleo Carter and the talking cat Luxor.

    Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun received the nickname "Tutenstein."

When the exhibit of the much better known Tutankhamun, aka King Tut, came to the museum, the X-Men Cyclops, Rogue, Storm and Wolverine elected to bring some of their students to see the exhibit. They were also accompanied by Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man.

(Tutenstein) - Watching as Cleo welcomed Peter Parker and the X-Men and their students, and he was furious as the students showed no interest in his exhibit, preferring to see King Tut. When Cleo and Luxor checked in on him, Tutenstein expressed his rage at that "pretender to the throne" being brought there, arguing that he and his heretic father Akhnaton had been erased from the official annals of history. When Tutenstein tried to compare his accomplishments to those of King Tut, Cleo confirmed that King Tut had done all of those things as well, causing the frustrated Tutenstein's head to pop off. Cleo complimented him that at least that was something that King Tut could never do. tutenstein-marvel-blast

Tutenstein considered that he should go back in time and give King Tut a piece of his mind, but as Parker, the X-Men and their students entered the room, Cleo urged him to hide. When she tried to tell them about Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun, they were surprised that there was another Tut, Logan joked that he wasn't that uncommon (a play on "ankhamun") and Parker suggested that they had made a wrong turn and that they should go back to the other hall where the better mummy was.

Unable to tolerate such insolence, Tutenstein used his staff/scepter to open a portal back in time to show Tutankhamun who was the best pharaoh, and Logan, Parker and Luxor were pulled back with him.

(Tutenstein - BTS) - Apparently as was typical of when Tutenstein opened such portals, some of the god Seth's demons of chaos and order poured out into the museum in the modern day where Cyclops, Rogue and Storm fought them.

(Tutenstein) - After futilely trying to command respect from Wolverine and Spider-Man (into whose uniform Parker had changed), Tutenstein headed to confront Tutankhamun himself. The heroes debated how to prevent a temporal paradox until Seth's demons emerged through that side of Tutenstein's portal as well. They informed Tutenstein, but he left them to fight the demons while he continued his mission.

Tutenstein further disregarded Luxor's warning/reminder against tampering with the past, but he was eventually confronted by Osiris. Although Tutenstein asked if he could come there to make him the most famous Tut of all, but Osiris showed him how his actions had placed his friends and subjects in serious danger. After Osiris showed an image of Cleo in the clutches of Set's demons back in the museum, Tutenstein accepted that a good pharaoh placed the good of his subjects over his own needs. tutenstein-marvel-insarc

Projecting energy from his scepter, Tutenstein forced the demons back through the portal and to their master, after which he led Wolverine, Spider-Man and Luxor back to the museum, where Wolverine advised Storm to force the demons back through the portal as well.

Tutenstein subsequently returned to his sarcophagus, where he smiled as two of the young mutants enjoyed his exhibit, noting that since he still got up and walked around even though he was dead, that he was a total freak, "just like us mutants." They agreed that
Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun was the best.

Comments: Created by Jay Stephens;
    adapted to Marvel by
Chuck Austen and Ron Lim.

The Tutenstein promotional comic by Marvel doesn't take place on Earth-616, as the Egyptian/Heliopolitan gods seen don't match the gods of Reality-616. Similarly, there is not evidence that it takes place in the regular continuity of Tutenstein, as Spider-Man and the X-Men apparently don't exist on that Earth. So, it would likely seem to be one of these options.

  1. It takes place on Earth-7642, aka Earth-Crossover, where beings from all companies/megaverses exist on the same world.
  2. It takes place in a unique reality where Tutenstein and at least Spider-Man and the X-Men exist on the same world.
  3. It takes place on either Earth-616 or the Earth of the mainstream Tutenstein, but there is some, presumably temporary, reality warping that overlaps the reality of one world with the other.

I'm not certain which of the above is the case, so I'm just going to cover the character from this comic, and include some supplementary information on the mainstream Tutenstein in the comments. I haven't watched any of the cartoons nor read the original comics, so everything comes from Wikipedia or other wiki/fan sites:

While comparing himself to Tutankhamun and rattling off feats, Tutenstein said, "Did he move the Egyptian capital from Amarna back to Thebes?" Since that was something that King Tut had done after his father had moved it to Amarna/Akhenaten, I'm not sure that it's something Tutenstein ever did.

Portmanteau. That's a fun word essentially meaning a combination of two words. Tutenstein is a merger of Tut-ankh-en-set-Amun and Frankenstein.

At least some of the young mutants who accompanied the X-Men to the mall could have their own profile. However, they were never identified, or else I'd have covered one of them here.

This profile was completed 01/02/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event to represent Tutenstein's stories and characters.
Thanks to Loki for cleaning up the main image (removing background characters)!
