First Appearance: Alpha Flight I#97 (June, 1991)
Powers/Abilities:
Trynx presumably possessed the standard abilities of his bipedal
semi-human race, although no specific abilities were demonstrated.
Aboard the command ship of the Consortium, Trynx was the weapons officer, firing weapons such as Dissipator Torpedoes, which drained the cosmic energies of powerful beings such as Her/J'Ridia Starduster.
The ship could also track a being who
departed via hyperspace and then similarly access hyperspace to pursue a
target. The ship could be active in space as well as within a planet's
atmosphere.
History:
(Alpha Flight I#97 (fb) - BTS) - Trynx was the weapons
officer of an unidentified command ship of the Consortium, an
intergalactic business conglomerate with financial interests on
thousands of worlds in the Milky Way Galaxy.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#35/4 (fb) - BTS / Alpha Flight I#99 (fb) - BTS) - Striking a deal with the Consortium, the being known as the U'sr'pr or "He Who Is Above All" forced the other natives of his planet, U'sr'pria, into a technological boom, ravaging its lush vegetation and environment in the process.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#35/4 - BTS / Alpha Flight I#97 (fb) - BTS) -
Her defeated and depowered the U'sr'pr and then forced him to aid the
other U'sr'prians -- who named her J’Ridia Starduster, or She Whose Trail
Dusts Hope -- in restore the U'sr'pria's environment and the people's
non-industrious agricultural society.
(Alpha Flight I#97 (fb) - BTS / Alpha Flight I#99 (fb) - BTS) - When the Consortium found their profits from U’sr’pria dwindling, they sent agents to correct this. The Consortium's agents appeared on U'sr'pria, announcing that U'sr'pria was in violation of legally binding contracts and were forfeiting their self-determination to Consortium control. Her/J'Ridia attempted to repel the Consortium but was limited by her desire to keep the U'sr'prians safe. Therefore, she led the Consortium away from the planet.
Amongst other ships, the Consortium command ship
pursued Her into space, repeated blasting her with energy-leeching
dissipator torpedoes.
(Alpha Flight I#97) - Trynx (presumably) launched
another dissipator torpedo, striking Her, whose cosmic energies were
severely depleted. A number of other dissipator torpedos followed, and the
exhausted Her considered that she had drawn the Consortium far enough away
from U'sr'pria. As Trynx reported that he had a target lock and asked the
commander for authorization to fire, the commander considered that J'Ridia
had given them a good chase but that she had cost the Consortium much
financial hardship and that her time was done. Asking that her soul rot
for eternity, the commander gave Trynx the word to fire, but he was
surprised when she suddenly vanished. Trynx reported that she had shunted
into hyperspace. After briefly tracking her, Trynx reported that she had
returned to Sol III, her homeworld, and the commander presumably
instructed Trynx or another to both contact the Consortium (the main
contingent, presumably) and to initiate pursuit.
(Alpha Flight I#97 - BTS) - Her emerged near Earth
and exhausted, she tried to land in Manhattan to find her human ally the
Thing (Ben Grimm) but instead arrived in Toronto, Canada. She was
recovered by national heroes Alpha Flight, who sympathized with her
plight. When the Consortium arrived and demanded that they turn over
J'Ridia, Alpha Flight's leader, Guardian (Heather Hudson) refused this
request. After the Consortium ship blasted Guardian in response, Alpha
Flight fought the Consortium on her behalf.
(Alpha Flight I#97) - While the commander ordered all units into scramble formation, another of Trynx's race reported that all systems were down and that the ship was coming apart. The commander asked where was the home office vessel, and Trynx reported that it was on its way, although not soon enough to be able to save them from the Terrans.
(Alpha Flight I#97 - BTS) - After the command ship and those that had accompanied it had crashed, the Consortium's immense home office vessel arrived and demanded they surrender J'Ridia immediately or be obliterated.
(Alpha Flight I#98-100 - BTS) - The recovering Her
joined the fight against the Consortium, as did the Avengers. The alien
Quwrlln coincidentally teleported away Her and half of Alpha Flight and
the Avengers, seeking their aid in defending their world from the
world-devourer Galactus. The Quwrlln had moved their planet into another
dimension, and the different physical laws allowed the defeat of Galactus
there. Unwilling to kill Galactus but not wanting to leave him stranded on
the Quwrlln’s planet with no recourse but to eventually devour it, a
solution was found when the Quwrlln and the human agents teleported the
Consortium mothership (and the miniature planet that empowered it) to that
dimension while returning the Quwrlln's planet to its previous location
and sending the humans back to Earth. Galactus presumably consumed the
planet empowering the Consortium mothership, if not the mothership itself
and potentially the Consortium agents on board. Alpha Flight's Vindicator
seemingly sacrificed his life providing power for this teleportation.
While the Mothership and its fleet and crew
were presumably consumed by Galactus, Trynx, the commander and the third
unidentified crewman were on a ship that crashed in Toronto, and it
presumably remained there after the conflict's resolution. Assuming they
survived, Trynx and his commander and the rest of the crew of the
command ship were presumably arrested.
(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A
to Z hardcover#6: Kismet entry) - The Consortium was
crippled, freeing U’sr’pria.
Comments: Created by Fabian Nicieza and Michael Bair.
Trynx was the one that got
identified, so he's the one that got the profile...the commander, the
race, the ship and the fleet were unidentified...
This profile was
completed 07/25/2026, but
its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th
anniversary 's celebratory event to represent Kismet's characters and
stories.
I will eventually profile the
Consortium, but time was too tight to cover the whole group for this
event. Writing this one while away from home, I used the information from
Alpha Flight I#97, which I had with me, with additonal information I
adapted from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z
hardcover#6's entry on Kismet (formerly Her).

the planet that powered the Consortium’s mother ship. Galactus
devoured the planet, sparing the Quwrlln, and the Consortium was
crippled, freeing U’sr’pria. Note: I don't think the commander or any of this race were seen after Alpha Flight I#97. They presumably shared the fate of the rest of the Consortium. Bummer that the commander didn't receive a name. Trynx or someone could have just answered, "Yes, Commander Varnix" or something. |

The
command ship was part of the fleet sent to U'sr'pria where it was
used in the battle against Her/J'Ridia Starduster, after which the

followed her -- presumably via hyperspace -- to Earth, where it was

They were semi-humanoid bipeds, and they wore only a Speedo-like
set of briefs even when piloting a starship. |

Fired from ships in the Consortium fleet sent to deal
with Dissipator Torpedoes Her/J'Ridia Starduster,
they drained the cosmic energies of powerful beings such as
Her/J'Ridia Starduster.
The fleet repeated struck Her
with these torpedoes until she fled via hyperspace to Earth. Note: Spellcheck tells me "Dissipator" should be spelled "Dissipater," but the former is how it was spelled in the comic, both by the Her and the aliens. |
