brilliant and learned astronomer, and has come to weaponize unusual
elements of celestial objects, such as specific spaceborne light
wavelengths. He has his own astronomy lab with telescopes with various
other equipment and chemicals. However, he has criminal connections and
is ready to murder opponents.

History:
(Mystic Comics I#3/1 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Emil Gair,
head of a crime syndicate plagued by the heroic Blue Blaze sought
different means to stop the vigilante.
(Mystic Comics I#3/1) - Gair approached the brilliant astronomer dubbed the Star-Gazer, who studied the unique wavelengths from a distant star. He demonstrated their properties by using a machine to focus the star's rays on certain chemicals, which slowly formed a growing humanoid but monstrous creature. Gair ordered Star-Gazer to have the Star-Monster destroy Blue Blaze, but the hero was already aware of the nefarious activity and burst in. Blue Blaze's superhuman strength easily overpowered his foes, but the hero was no match for the super-strong Star-Monster and he was tossed out the window. However, day dawned and the monster, reliant on the star's light, fell asleep and awoke again at night. Gair, Star-Gazer and their creature headed to Blue Blaze's hideout, but the hero had already made preparations for a second encounter. Blue Blaze duped them into following him and he successfully poured molten lead over the Star-Monster, thereby blocking the star's rays and removing its power source. Star-Gazer was initially confused until Blue Blaze revealed his plan. The hero demanded to know how Star-Gazer had achieved such a feat and the villain demonstrated, distracting Blue Blaze while he scrabbled for a weapon and found a crystal lens he could use as a death ray from the same star's light. But Blue Blaze grabbed a hand mirror and reflected the beam at the dire duo, killing both.

It could easily be suggested that the
Star-Monster
was more like a golem, making the Star-Gazer an astronomer with
alchemist skills, rather than an astrophysicist.
Star-Gazer's real name was revealed in the Marvel Mystery Handbook 70th Anniversary Special (which also identified him as only an astronomer).
Presumably Star-Gazer's location was away from light pollution (i.e., away from city and suburbia) and not too far from Blue Blaze's secret mountain hideout.

Dr. Emil Gair, head of a crime syndicate plagued by
the heroic Blue Blaze, sought help from astronomer Star-Gazer, who
showed him his special work. The Star Monster was created from rays
from a particular star cast onto certain chemicals. It slowly coalesced
into a giant humanoid but monstrous form about 10' tall. Gair ordered
it be set after Blue Blaze, but the hero, already aware of the
nefarious activity, burst in. Star-Monster easily resisted Blue Blaze's
powerful punches and clutched him tight in its grip, then tossed him
out the window (but the hero survived). However, Star Monster was
reliant on the star's rays and with dawn, it fell asleep. At sunset,
Star Monster woke and the two crooks took the creature to Blue
Blaze's hideout. But the hero was prepared for their second encounter
and fooled them into following him inside Ace Printing Company, where
Blue Blaze poured molten lead over Star-Monster, blocking the unique
star's distinctive rays and petrifying it.
Star Monster followed orders from its creator but could not speak, and processed visual cues from its creator. It moved no faster than a human at standard walking pace, but was stronger than Blue Blaze (so, beyond superhuman Class 100) and appeared to be virtually indestructible; however, these characteristics were all dependent on rays from the star. With no unique light wavelengths, the creature fell asleep.
Its fanged and clawed form (with ears)
suggest a chemical formula that had been developed by Star-Gazer and
this was probably not the first time he had generated such a golem-like
creature.
