SOLAM

Real Name: Unrevealed, possibly none

Identity/Class: Extra-terrestrial (Star System 127-B?)

Occupation: Unknown, possible world-conqueror or scout

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: None

Enemies: Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), General Bridges

Known Relatives: none

Aliases: The Solar Energy Creature

Base of Operations: Star System 127-B?

First Appearance: Captain Marvel I#6 (October, 1968)

Powers/Abilities: Solam is a being comprised, apparently, of solar energy, and can discharge that energy through projectile blasts. He is also strong, though class is unknown (Mar-Vell mentions that no single Kree could stand against a Solam).

History:
(Captain Marvel I#6) - While under the guise of Dr. Walter Lawson, the Kree scout Mar-Vell visited the famed physicist Dr. Norman Lundquist, who was presenting his new Solar Amplification Light-Cannon, or SOLAM. Wary of the machine, Mar-Vell was not surprised to see the machine bring forth a solar-powered creature (which Mar-Vell also dubbed Solam), as the Kree had encountered similar creatures in Star System 127-B. Mar-Vell deduced that the same power that brought the creature to Earth and was empowering it, could also kill it if bombarded (over-fed) with it. The Kree’s gamble worked, and the Solam creature was hit with too much solar energy to absorb, causing it to explode into sunlight.

Comments: Created by Arnold Drake and Don Heck

The origins of this creature remain a bit of a mystery. Though it is heavily inferred that this is one of the same race that the Kree have encountered before, there is no true proof.

CLARIFICATIONS:

Solam has no known connection to:

 Dr. Norman Lundquist

A Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Lundquist created the SOLAM unit. He was apparently an old acquaintance of Dr. Walter Lawson, the deceased human whose guise Mar-Vell impersonated.
